April Art Challenge - Forbin

Forbin

This probably won't count for the contest, because I did this up while UPN was still on the air, and have posted it here before. But what the heck. My idea for a new series is a rotating anthology. Four different series in 4 different Trek eras, airing in rotation in the same time slot. That gives each series one episode a month, hopefully giving the productions time to do truly high quality episodes. Here are the full-page TV Guide ads:

I can't imagine such a thing could ever be made. You'd have all the expense of one show... but times four....

Practicalities aside, I think it would be a fun series to watch!

Yeah, entries should really be produced within the month of the challenge, but thanks for posting these. It's a neat idea! :bolian:

I don't think it would be quite that bad - set up would be for four series, yes, but they'd only produce 1/4 the amount of shows for each installment. So for a 24-episode series, say, each production team would only have to produce 6 episodes. In my totally uninformed brain, it would be like producing four miniseries.

Either that, or, yeah, it would cost 4 times as much as a regular series.

Anyway, it's a blue-sky idea. I just pitch it, it's up to the producers and the studio to figure out how to make it. ;)

I guess my biggest doubt would be the fact that you would have to pay for four collections of sets. It would be pretty challenging to make enough changes to these sets just through set dressing to make them different enough. But it would be an interesting challenge.

At least all the ship shots would be CGI.
There could be savings by using CGI for many sets. I'd say all four main bridges would be real standing sets, and some corridors, and maybe one crew cabin. The rest - engineerings, shuttle bays, etc - all CGI.

Are you secretly George Lucas!?!?!?

HA! I dunno, I'm not sold. But I agree it would be an awesome idea. Especially if each miniseries all contributed to the overall arc of the series.

That would be a development meeting unto itself - do we want the 4 stories to intersect or relate at all? Should they be four totally separate stories alternating, or an intervweaved whole? My personal preference would be 4 separate adventures with no crossovers, just to keep things simple. Let each production company do their own thing and not have to worry about jiving with reach other.
