Apples

Meaning the fruit not the computers.

I have just devoured two Pink Lady apples and I was wondering who else like apples, and if you do what varieties are your favourite? I like Pink Lady and Lady on the Snow most, though Lady in the Snow are hard to find. I like red apples more than green apples.

Also do you use apples much in cooking? Apple pies, apple crumble, microwave-baked apple etc? Any quick recipes to share?

Feel free to talk about other fruit if you don't like apples.

I like apples, though I prefer to get the packaged apple slices rather than whole apples.

Apple slices with peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks. :techman:

I don't mind buying little bags of apple slices but they are not sold by many places here.

I absolutely detest peanut butter (though I love fresh peanuts).

I only buy honeycrisp these days because I haven't had an allergic reaction to them and I do sometimes with apples in general. I do sometimes make applesauce because it's easy and I don't react to cooked apples, but eating a raw apple is much more pleasant.

I love Apples that grow on my tree. I do do something weird with them though. I like the Apple peels, so I peel the apple almost to the core and eat it that way.

I don't like Apples from the stores though. The chemical that is sprayed on this makes them lose the flavor and they end up tasting a little bland. I'll eat them, but it's just not the same as growing them yourself.

I am totally over apples. I eat like one a year, if that. They were my favorite fruit growing up and I ate ate ate them and then one day I was over it.

I have been eating a mango a day for a long time though.

btw I'm not just posting this to be the threadshitter who comes along and says BLECH when the topic is about what you like about something, it's something that often comes to mind because if you told me when I was younger that I would stop eating/liking apples I would have laughed in your face. And yes Pink Lady are excellent apples :)

Pink Lady is an Australian apple, I am not sure how much they are eaten elsewhere.

I don't like mango all that much, nor nectarines but I think the fruit i dislike the most is rock melon (cantaloupe). I have a friend who absolutely hates apricots which is a fruit i love.

My parents have an apple tree in their yard and when we were kids, there was one day we convinced my dad that we should pick all the apples. Every single one. My mom was upstairs napping at the time. She woke up and came down to a floor completely covered with apples (we put down newspaper first). She was horrified! We were eating apples for a long time after that, and anyone we saw got a basket of apples.

Tasmania used to be known as "The Apple Isle", less often now. When I was in primary school we used to have a tour of the apple sheds almost every year.

I like Golden Delicious, Red Gala, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, McIntosh, and Braeburn apples, among many others.

Apples are fine. Baked apples are a favorite dessert. I'm not too picky on the variety, just so long as they aren't overly tart.

I love sugar-free apple pies (i.e., no sugar added) and homemade apple sauce. I'm not really fond of apple juice, though. Waldorf salads are wonderful. I'm not picky about apple variety.

As far as peanut butter and fruit go, I can't seem to get enough peanut buttered bananas.

It's been available in Germany for about 10 or 15 years now.
I rather like the very old sorts like Gravensteiner or Emperor William. In my opinion these two are the best sort for eating fresh.
My parents own one of the last 8 Gigant Boiken trees in Germany . A huge apple (a single one can weigh over 300g / 0.66 lbs), good for apple butter, jam and general cooking purposes. Not that good for eating fresh. It's not bred anymore because it has very irregular crops. One year you drown in apples, the next you have barely enough for an apple stroodle.

I like apples, preferably something tart and crisp. Pretty much any apple product or baked good as well.

red delicious, granny smith and honeycrisp for me. i've never been crazy about apple pie, but i love apple crisp and a good caramel apple.

I have made litres of apple butter in my life, which I prefer now to apples.. I used to always have a pantry full of jars of it but the price of apples here skyrocketed and I haven't done it for a while. Made peach butter recently though because of a big peach sale :)

Don't often eat an apple, but I'm not overly fussy about the vareity ones I've had off the top of my head. Red delicious, Granny Smith, McIntosh, Royal Gala, Braeburn, Pink Lady and I'm sure a few others that I've forgotten.

I don't tend to eat apples, i'm more of a banana and orange guy. But I do buy apples to make braised red cabbage, lovely with apples, onions, bay leaves, red wine and a really dark sugar.

I usually go for Bramley or Braeburn as both are quite tart.
