Anyone on this board dislike Star Wars?

I like Star Wars fine. It's entertaining, but I'm watching A New Hope right now and I'm fucking bored. When I was a kid I liked it because of all the "cool" space battles and light saber fights, but now I find all the characters to be bland and lacking real depth. Episodes I, II and III are atrocious and I think George Lucas really fucked over his franchise.

It has not aged well for me. I thought the prequels were terrible from the get go, but now I don't even like the original trilogy that much anymore. I was watching "The Empire Strikes Back" a couple months ago and was shocked at how boring it was.

For the first time ever, I agree with Mach5. This is pretty ridiculous. Particularly if you thought Battle LA was a good movie...

I used to like Star Wars a lot! I think maybe I've just seen them too many times.

I did like Battle LA as well, but that doesn't mean it's going to hold up to repeat viewings.

I like Star Wars. I still love the original trilogy. I like bits and pieces of the prequel trilogy, but not as a whole.

I never really cared much for SW. The original movies were okay, the prequels were pretty but completely insubstantial, and I have zero interest in any of the tie-ins aside from the video games.

I'll say that I'm a fan of SW video games but not much else in the franchise. TIE Fighter remains one of my all-time favorite space combat games. :techman:

Loved the OT, saw Star Wars 23 times in the theaters in the old days... hated the PT, and I'll admit that the bad taste it left in my mouth has cooled my enthusiasm for the overall SW universe a bit. I still like it though.

The X-Wing and TIE Fighter games did indeed rock, blowing up the Death Star remains my proudest gaming achievement. :D

Those were fantastic games. Also, the first KOTOR game was so good it made me wish it were a movie instead of the prequel crap we were getting at the time.

The PT is dreadful (I know some people think RotS was ok, but I still thought that was terrible).

As for the OT, I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I still quite like them. Not sure I quite understand the huge fan following, but I still think they're very good movies.

Ranking in rough order:

1) The Empire Strikes Back

*gap*

2) A New Hope
3) Revenge of the Sith (yes :p )

*smaller gap*

4) Return of the Jedi
5) Attack of the Clones

*huge gap*

6) The Phantom Menace

TESB is still one of the best science fiction movies ever made and it beats the other SW films (including A New Hope) by lengths.

TPM might not be the worst move ever made, but I still like to pretend that it doesn't exist.

Just finished re-watching the Original Trilogy for the first time in years... and thoroughly enjoyed it. :techman:

My Star Wars rankings:

1 The Empire Strikes Back
2 A New Hope
3 Revenge of the Sith
4 Return of the Jedi

huge, huge, huge gap

5 The Phantom Menace
6 Attack of the Clones

The first two movies were just wonderful flicks, and did so much to usher in and define the 80s era of popular commercial films that it's hard to view them apart from that.

The rest of SW is just someone else's fan interest.

Even as a child, Star Wars never really interested me. I'm not 100% sure I'd even seen the OT movies all the way through until within the last half year.

I watched all 6 of them within the same 2 week period within the last half year and confirmed that I just don't care for Star Wars. But, as a geek, I felt I had to commit to at least seeing all of them, all the way through once. Now I can say I definitely have.

I like bits and pieces... Light sabers are cool. Han Solo is a pimp. Some of the ship designs are nice. But... Nothing else really stands out and works for me.

I also hold the inflammatory opinion that Chewbacca is the Jar Jar Binks of the OT. Not quite as annoying (whereas Jar Jar is an 11... Chewie is maybe an 8), but every time he gargles I want to punch something.

I own all 6 movies on DVD and I would classify myself as a casual fan. I saw the original in the theater in 1977 and loved it. But when they did the re-release of the original movie in the theater in the late 90s I remembered getting bored and complaining that the movie was too long.

I liked the Original Trilogy because the characters actually felt like they were part of the world, instead of actors swinging plastic sticks at eachother and laughing about it afterwards. When I watched the prequel trilogy, I kept expecting the actors to say "Okay, now where's my paycheck?" after every scene. Steve from Blue's Clues cared more about his role than the entire cast of the Prequel Trilogy. The Original Trilogy is up there with Lord of the Rings in terms of suspension of disbelief.
