Anyone here think the moon landings were faked?

Moon landing conspiracists always seem to forget that Apollo 11 wasn't the only landing. They have tunnel vision to the nth degree.

I don't think the landings were faked, but I think we found something up there or out there that spooked us... that's why we closed down the program and destroyed the drawings for the Saturn rockets and the rest of the hardware.
So you wear just half of a tinfoil hat?

The moon landing couldn't have been faked because people saw it on TV! That seems to be the only proof people need of the event happing. It would be much easier to fake a moon mission than the actually go there. Especially when one watches the video of the US flag flapping in the breeze of the vacuum of space? I am 100% agnostic on the moon missions. I am not saying it didn't happen but I would like to see proof. We got satellites that can look down at earth and read the date on a coin laying on the ground, we should be able to see the moon mission gear left on the moon with a telescope from here on earth. That would be proof.

My father was in the aerospace business at the time. No, I don't think the moon landings were faked.

Same here. Dad said too many people were monitoring things for it to be fake. Dad also identified the o-rings as the cause of the Challenger disaster within an hour of it blowing up--confirmed by the film of flame coming out the side of the engine where o-rings were located.

Dad was a rocket scientist. His stuff never crashed, never blew up.

Sir, I SAW each and every launch of the Saturn V rocket...live from a folding chair on the beach..I met many of the Astronauts, saw the training gear, climbed in the simulators..

Agnostic I'm not...I'm a witness...

Man, you've got to stop smoking that shit.

The flag wasn't “flapping.” That’s been explained a thousand times. “We should be able to see the moon mission gear left on the moon with a telescope from here on earth”? That’s not possible. A piece of hardware the size of a conference table? Just how close do you think the moon is, anyway?

The six successful Apollo missions are a matter of historic fact. You might as well ask for “proof” that World War II happened. Maybe we just had a little disagreement with the Germans and Japanese about import duties on Dresden porcelain and cheap paper fans.

Occam's Razor, anyone?

It's a tired joke, but I'll repeat it: those who think the "government" masterminded a moon hoax should remember that this same administration couldn't pull off a second-rate burglary without bringing down the president. It's incredible to me that anyone would believe that hoaxing the moon landings is a rational explanation.

And the only "proof" HBers need to believe in a hoax are poorly cropped & highly compressed .jpegs and overly edited mission footage narrated by some pompous egomaniac who feeds on their fears while looking for a quick buck.

Prove it.
Step by step.
Please.

Debunked.

I am 100% agnostic on the moon missions. I am not saying it didn't happen but I would like to see proof.

What proof would make you happy and prevent you from moving the goal posts once provided?

We got satellites that can look down at earth and read the date on a coin laying on the ground,

No, we don't.

we should be able to see the moon mission gear left on the moon with a telescope from here on earth. That would be proof.

No optics currently exist of the size required to resolve 2 - 3 meter objects on the surface of the moon, and none are on the drawing board as they would be far too large to be practical or useful and too expensive for any sane person or institution to want to invest in.

JohnM - was he the guy who sold hats, or the one that won a lot of money on the lottery, or both? He certainly was the one who though the moon landing was fake.

I only know one woman who believes that the moon landings were fake. She carried on about the flag waving in the photos and when I tried to tell her why it seemed to be she threw up her hands and told me she didn't understand science and didn't want an scientific explanation (even though the answer I was going to give didn't involve science).

I don't think we could land and come back safely now, let alone the 1960's.

To today's generation the idea of a massive war between countries lasting for multiple years is unthinkable. To the Greatest Generation it was daily life.

In the '60s we had a unified nation against a coherent external threat we were in direct competition with. We had more incentive. Give NASA a time crunch and a real budget and they'll make it to Mars.

I don't like it when penny-pinchers refuse to give enough funding and then demand to know where the spectacular achievements are.

we should be able to see the moon mission gear left on the moon

Yeah, it's too bad nothing like that exists.

Oh wait.

Those are very cool images! Thank you for sharing these, Canadave.

The very sad thing is, with these conspiracy folks, they will continue to believe what they want, claiming that whatever evidence is presented is fake. I am sure a conspiracy person would say, "Hey, it would be easy for NASA to create those fake pictures!"

It seems that many times the conspiracy believer actually lacks the basic knowledge that would be needed to even understand the facts (and often the science) related to the issue/event. Such as in the woman in Miss Chicken's frustrating example..... how can you discuss an issue that has a scientific component to it with someone who neither knows nor wishes to know the scientific reasoning? Argghh!!

Try telling that to someone who was a teenager in the 1960s. There are lots of us around, you know. The entire world witnessed men landing and walking on the moon. SIX times.

To today's generation the idea of a massive war between countries lasting for multiple years is unthinkable.
Or the idea that a civilized and cultured nation could create a far-reaching, sophisticated apparatus for the sole purpose of methodically exterminating entire groups of people.

(Sorry, didn’t mean to Godwin the thread.)

In the '60s we had a unified nation

No.
“No”? Did we have a second Civil War or something that I missed?
