LOL, I haven't been to a game since 1994. I infinitely prefer the comfort of home.

I knock 15 years off my age to sign up for a kids' membership, since they don't have games included (plus I get a cool birthday card!). ;)

Incidentally, can I highly recommend http://stats.rleague.com/afl/afl_index.html

It has game-by-game stats from 1976-2010, with 74-75 coming soon. I've helped out with a lot; it's a tedious process converting them from microfilm newspapers to HTML, but it's well worth it. :)

Good on you. :techman:

Get to a game at Telstra Dome sometime. 55,000 under a roof in a thriller - the atmosphere cannot be beaten in Australian sport IMO.

MCG on a freezing Saturday arvo, I can do without though

Go the 'Pies!!!!

Another one

;)

Essendon are playing Melbourne in the NAB cup tonight, and I cannot tell the difference between the teams. I wish the AFL would crack the whip on this issue and demand every side have a home, away and clash jumper.

I became a fan watching highlights on youtube here in the US. This will be my first season actually following it but I LOVE the concept of the sport.

They are both rubbish. You'd think with all their tanking and high draft picks the Deemons would put on a better show.

Have you seen the papers today - one little win against the 2009 wooden spooner and already 'the new look Essendon' are being talked up.

Wow, that is very cool, welcome aboard. Who are you going to follow? Is there any way you can watch the games?

I came to AFL late in life too. I saw my first game when I was about 22. Most other sports seem very stop/start and one dimensional once you've been exposed to AFL.

Slow is the adjective you're looking for :)

far be it for me to spruik my own side! you could do a lot worse than collingwood. 119 year old club, 15 flags and some of the greatest exponents of the game have played or coached collingwood. no other team in the afl generates as much passion as the pies do - we love them dearly, and everyone else hates them

 I actually am a huge NFL and MLB fan. I just like variety in sports though, NBA, NHL, Arena Football. Cricket. I don't think of one being slow or another fast, just different I guess. Each serves it's purpose in strategy and athletic competition.

As for watching, unless they have some sort of online subscription service similar to MLB no... I'll probably track scores and watch highlight vids where I can.

Dunno bout a team yet, I always pick sides for one reason or another so I'm sure that'll come naturally.

Seems so far away  At least the World Cup is on.

Thought your boys were going to get home last night :techman:

I know it's the NAB cup, but the crowds have been noticeably poor over the past few nights. Hopefully this means the three team format is dead and buried for next year.

Loved the new Saints clash strip - hope we see it beyond the pre-season.

I got into watching AFL years ago when they used to show it late night on Channel 5 in Britain. Haven't watched it in years - and am rather nervous to state my affiliation to the team I followed then, since Hawthorn don't seem to be held in high regard any more

I think TSN shows some games here in Canada, I need to see what I can find, once the season starts.
