Anyone feel...sorry for Shatner?

It's a great free way to keep the movie in the headlines with the continuing story that Shatner's not in the movie. Reporters ask him about it and write stories. Reporters as J.J. about it and write stories. Free publicity. But in the end, Shatner will be in the movie.

Judging from when we saw him in atlanta in the mid 90's...no he was kinda arrogant to be honest..I agree with what some others said about it..EGO

Nope. If had wanted to be a part of Trek again so badly, he had a chance to reprise the role on Enterprise, but it didn't work out, and I find it hard to believe he wasn't at least partly to blame for that. He's also made plenty of money off the books that tells how Kirk didn't really die after all, so if you REALLY hate how he died in Generations so much, you can enjoy those books.

I wouldn't mind too much if they have Shatner and Nimoy interact on the big screen one last time if it took place before Kirk fateful trip on the Enterprise-B. If they do it any other way, I doubt I'll care for it, and I fear it might detract from the story and feel forced.

Well, I think he got screwed on the emmies does that count? He lost to the wheelchair guy on LOST. I dunno, I think he prolly coulda won if BL was recognized as a "comedy" instead of a "drama". I always thought it *was* a comedy. Meh.

But really, I don't think shoehorning one more TOS actor in where he doesn't fit is a good idea. It's not like they're doing it delibrately to say they don't like him. They just don't have a part for him. I think it's better to go with JJ Abrams ideas rather than trying to add people in for old times sake. This isn't a charity, it's a movie. Hopefully a good one.

My suspicion is that this is is the case: he's simply asking for a good deal more than the studio is willing to pay.
Yeah you are always suspicious of Shatner which skews any view you have on the matter as nothing more than jealousy of real success.

I would agree that UWC Defiance is, shall we say, "less objective" when it comes to Shatner than he is with respect to most other topics, but your reasoning as to why makes little sense.

He comes across as someone who is very jealous of Shatner. Shatner an emmy award winner, popular Star Trek personality. It's as if he takes Shatner's parody of himself as reality or either he is just trying to tick off Shatner fans. Maybe someone dressed as Kirk beat him up when he was a kid because he has so much venom for Shatner and Star Trek fans.

Exactly so.

In any event, giving a guy two EMMYs is hardly "screwing him." While that event isn't exactly a thrilling competition among the best of the best, it's not a charity either.

Why should I? If he didn't agree to kill off Kirk in Generations he'd most likely be in this movie since Kirk would be alive. He made the bed time to lie down in it.

Shatner let his character be whacked well over a decade ago.

I don't expect J.J. and co. to conjure up some convoluted claptrap to bring him back from the dead (if we are speaking of an appearance alongside a post-TNG Spock, right?) when it only serves to satisfy the BBK crowd and sate Shat's ego.

I believe Nimoy's participation is more than ample in representing the iconic face of the franchise.

And where in reality is this conclusion based?
