Anyone else tired of comic book movies???

Comics gave my parents something they could take away from me, when I was bad.:p

Both my parents were readers. They didn't care what genre the books I read were. Though they did think my reading the Encyclopedia for fun was weird.

The only books my parents ever bought me were two sets of encyclopedias (one general, one science). I just started with the letter A and kept going. It also motivated me to earn money so I could buy somewhat lighter fare (mostly comics).

Interesting question.

I actually hate comic book movies. I mean completely HATE. McMovies at their worst. Hollywood garbage at its worst. Feels like you can't get through a summer without 6 of these things. I know LOTS of people like them, but for whatever reason they are crap to me. I admit I'm in the minority and probably missing something. No offense meant.

I enjoy comic book movies if they are done well, with good stories, substance, gravitas, insight into humanity, and quality acting. X-Men: Days of Future Past has become one of my favorite films of all time. It's so much more than some generic superheroes-in-spandex escapist story. It is not a "McMovie" or "Hollywood garbage" by any means. Neither is Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

But lighthearted escapist entertainment can also be done very well, and there's nothing wrong with that. Not everything needs to be dark, heavy and joyless in order to be good and highly entertaining.

Also, as with any genre, there is a broad range of quality. Some of it just plain sucks. For every "Dark Knight," there is some shoddy stuff like "The Green Lantern" or "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." But you can't dismiss an entire genre just because some of it happens to be silly, corporate fluff.

Oh yeah, and thanks for resurrecting an old thread. :vulcan:

It doesn't have to be snobbery. It's not my favourite movie, but Godfather 1 might just be the best film ever made - imho anyway. Plot, script, cast, cinematography, sets, set dressing, costume, sound, score, simple overall depth, quality and class...unbeatable.

Personally I prefer superhero movies, particularly MCU, but love them as I do, are any of them on a par with The Godfather ? No.

And The Dark Knight!s incredible. Not only is it the only Batman movie I like, it's the only Nolan movie I like too...

And I'd argue that the plot, script and cast were a lot better in The Avengers, and that I could think of dozens of films that can beat Godfather in every category  Its all opinion.

Bones...you are not alone.

I have to admit I am tiring of them somewhat. I need to take a break form comic book movies so often and watch a good movie that is set in a more realistic world. I think that the studios will keep churning these out until they have burned the genre out. It happened with westerns and sci fi in the 1950s. Of course they will bounce back after they go away for a while.
