Anyone else on here the only person they know who likes trek?

Although I hate Twilight with a passion i diasagree with that statement. Doesn't matter what your interests are really........if a guy likes Twilight let him like Twilight and I say he has balls to admit it as well and he should!
My husband is also a Trekkie but none of my friends or workmates are. I don't hide my Trekkieness and am teased in a friendly manner about it, but that doesn't bother me at all (they all watch reality television, which gives me a rash). My 13-year-old daughter is also a Trek fan but she doesn't let even her closest friends know. Liking Trek must be a serious social faux pas among her peers because she's an independent girl who isn't usually too bothered by the opinions of others. And she has the sense to hate Twilight! 
Change wife to girlfriend, and everything you said applies to me too.

LOL my neighborhood is considered pretty ghetto here, but I'm sure its still way better than South Central or the Bronx
Plus it was high school. Everybody wants to be a gangster in high school. Even the rich kids. That's how you get girls
To those who came to TrekBBS to get to know other Trek fans:
Check out the Redshirt Lounge or Captain's Lounge, etc. They are hidden toward the bottom of the FORUMS page. The Lounges are for getting to know those of similar rank. You can play games, make friends and have a little fun. I have made some very good friends on TrekBBS and been able to get to know them better there.

My mum is a moderate Trek fan, she watched TOS before I was born (I entered the world in '82), and I remember seeing TNG when I was about five years old. So she introduced me to it. She isn't as hardcore as I am, though!
My dad is a total non-sci fi fan, and shakes his head whenever we bring up Trek.
My brother watches Trek DVDs with me sometimes, and says some of the eps are cool, but I'm not sure he'd watch the show on his own accord, without my influence.
Other than family members, I don't know anyone else remotely into Star Trek.

I have bred my own Trek fans. My kids have seen every bit of Trek and read some of the books. They all have action figures. We have gone to different kinds of cons together. We are a Trek family. The kids have converted their friends over time so the group is always growing.
One great thing about getting older, I do not care one whit what anyone might think of my hobbies. I have liked Star Trek for 33 years, so they can go jump. I have an Enterprise patch on my bag and I often read Trek books when on a train or having coffee.
I hear some of you saying you have to keep it under wraps in order to attract a mate.. I don't have to consider that but if I did I would probably be MORE out and proud than now because I would want to eliminate shallow people and up the chances of actually meeting someone who liked Science Fiction at the very least.

I was introduced to Star Trek by my schoolmate (and best friend) when I was 6 years old. His parents watched it already and I spent a lot of time at his place watching TNG. Years ago my aunt got a boyfriend who loved it as well and we spent a lot of time talking about it in family gatherings (awesome way to talk boredom away). I met a couple of other people who really liked it, including a friend of mine who is a legit trekker along with his wife. They watch together Star Trek in the evenings after a tiring day and have already bought their 2 years old daughter a baby-sized starfleet uniform!

Unfortunately, none of my close friends are Trek fans. I do know some people who could be considered "casual" fans. But nobody in my "circle" is as much of a Trek fan as I am. And that is too bad. And I'm not afraid to tell anyone I'm a Trekkie. If anyone has a problem with that, it's their problem, not mine.
I usually end up telling people that I like Trek. If they see my home, they will see the Trek costumes I have made for Barbie dolls and they usually figure it out for themselves!
I don't know how many real fans are in this area, though. I usually just visit this board and get my Trek fix here.

I have always been the biggest Trek fan out of everyone I've ever known.

I don't have anyone to talk Trek with at all. I was glad to find this forum, even though as into Trek as I am, I can't keep up with a lot of people around here. People break it down to levels I would have never even dreamed of.
I'm not the stereotypical Trek fan either obviously. I watch hardly any of the other shows people on here talk about (Lost, Doctor Who, Stargate, etc.) I'm not a PC gamer at all. I've never played D&D. The only comic books I ever liked were the actual "comic" ones (Beetle Bailey, The Archies, etc.). My favorite genre of TV shows and films are comedies. I seldom read books.
Still, it's nice to have somewhere to talk about Trek, and whether people agree or disagree with me, at least they know what I'm talking about!

AFA the whole "social perception" thing. I don't hide it, but I don't outwardly advertise it either. I've never been to a con, and I don't really own any Trek related paraphernalia. But i do read Trek books in public (especially recently) and all of my DVDs are sitting on the shelf in the open for anyone who comes over to see.
The way I see it, if a person has to make a big deal (negatively) about my hobbies, I don't have any time for them.
I think it's funny that way. The majority of my friends are conservative, but even when our debates get passionately heated, I don't mind because I know they're not judging me directly. (If that makes sense.)
