Anyone else having a strangely quiet NYE?

We've always had a quiet NYE at home. But this year it is being a bit rough on the daughter with dad gone.

I've suggested What-a-Burger or some else 24 place for midnight, but we are home t the moment (nearly 10pm) so don't know.

Cheers to the other quiet ones on the board and fell better to those under the weather. Getting over that myself.

We watched a few old "Addams Family" episodes on DVD, then the girls started playing on the Playstation. They are excited to get to stay up until midnight, but my wife was dozing on the couch last I checked. And here I am posting here nursing a glass of bourbon. Guess that all qualifies as strangely quiet.
I suppose I'll open a bottle of bubbly for the wife and I pretty soon, and the girls are going to have sparkling cider. Probably be in bed by 12:15. New Years has just never excited me that much. Damn neighbors a few houses down have been setting off fireworks off and on since about 8:00. Drives our dogs nuts.

We'll have a kind of celebration, tomorrow, though. A big fry-up breakfast with mimosas made from left-over champagne. And, you can bet that my southern wife will require us to have collard greens, black-eyed peas, and corn bread with our ham at dinner.

I would have spent NYE with my girlfriend, but she lives pretty far away (relative to somebody who does not own a car and won't for another year or two) so I called her up and burned the minutes away. Then I did something I haven't for a long time: I played music...
WITHOUT ANY HEADPHONES! Yup, I listened to it just on a speaker so that I could hear it throughout the house. That pretty much defines me "celebrating" any holiday that doesn't involve candy or a special dinner.

I usually have a quiet New Years Eve every New Year.

The last time I went out to celebrate NYE was about 20 years ago. Myself and a friend went to a night club at the Casino. We walked out of the casino at about 1.30am and there was a really long line for a taxi and we were in the line for one and a half hours. We ended having more fun in the line than we did in the nightclub.

If I may ask, was this the Wrest Point Casino?

I am drinking brandy...listening to music and trying to forget 2010 ever happened.

there's no reason why changing over from Dec 31, 2010 to Jan 1, 2011 should be any different than the change over from Nov 30, 210 to Dec 1, 2010.
So you’re a time traveler from the reign of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus?

I live alone and I’m not the party type. My New Year‘s Eves are usually pretty quiet, except for a few scattered fireworks in the neighborhood as midnight approaches, and the local dogs freaking out when they hear the fireworks.

BTW, one good thing about living in a big American city -- if you need to buy food or just about anything else on a holiday, you can always find a store open. In fact, here in Los Angeles, it’s easier to find a restaurant open for business on Christmas than on Thanksgiving. Not surprising, since most of the eateries here are owned by Jews, Muslims, and Hindus!

For more than 25 years my New Year's Eves have been quiet. I would work at the newspaper and depending on my shift, I'd be driving home anywhere between 11 and midnight.

And I'm perfectly content to keep NYE a quiet celebration.

Not really "strangely" quiet if one plans it to a be quiet night, is it?

Went out to spend some gift cards early and then came home. Watched a bit of TV, had some pizza, played some Goldeneye on the Wii and that was about it. Midnight is about 8 minutes away right now and bed time is gonna be about 10 minutes after that. :p

Good -- that means you got home before all the idiot drunks were on the road.

I wish. I'm too busy to have a quiet New Year's Eve.
And so we pass into the next year. I hope it's a good one.

Yes. Yes, I am.

Too lazy to go out, and none of my pals are around anyway.

Drunk and attractive ladies, feel free to give a knock at <address redacted/PM if you're a drunk and attractive lady> in an hour or two. Don't worry; if you do show, I'll get drunk too, so it'll all be fine. :p

My New Year's Eves generally consist of flipping back and forth between the Twilight Zone and Three Stooges Marathons and having Chinese food. This year, my Niece and Nephew were pretty aggravating; my Nephew, in particular, is going through a particularly obnoxious phase. So I would have preferred if my night was a lot quieter. :rommie:

I much prefer a quiet NYE these days. I had plenty of riotous drunken ones when I was younger, so I can't be arsed with that sort of thing these days.

:D

I never liked NYE that much, so having a quiet one is perfect to me. It was the husband and I, and then a friend came over to spend the night after work. The craziest we got was dancing club style at midnight with noisemakers and silly hats.

I wouldn't call it "strangely" quiet, but I have been getting pretty low-key the last couple years. Last year, I did a 2 mile out-and-back run and timed it so the first mile ended right at midnight. This year, a buddy and I got a 6-pack, some pizza, and hunkered down with some movies and an X-box.

Having a quiet holiday works perfectly well for me.

This year was the first time I've been out on NYE, or at the least the first time I can remember being out. Came home before midnight though.

My husband doesn't do crowds and neither of us likes parties, so we had copious amounts of junk food and watched DVDs with the kids. Several of our neighbours always have good fireworks displays, so it was all good. And the kids slept in 'til 10 the next morning, which was even better!

I had a normally quiet New Year's Eve. I had the usual Friday night dinner with my parents, my Mom made the traditional New Year's franks-in-blanks, I watched some Doctor Who on DVD, and then the ball dropping in Times Square at midnight on TV. Though my 9-year-old nephew stayed up to midnight to watch the ball drop with me, the first year he's stayed up that late.
