Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoilers)

I flinched a bit when it said Kirk would actually have protesters picketing over his graduating from the Academy.

I mean, is this being turned into a teen angst thing? Should we start calling it "Kirk's Creek" now?

Oh, and he apparently gets command of a ship right out of the Academy.

I thought he'd have to climb the ranks and serve under other more experienced officers first.

How silly of me.

That was a minor point, tho'.

THIS is what really got to me-

Another source was impressed with the look of the Enterprise, saying "...When I saw the new look of the Enterprise, I just wanted to go out and buy a model kit of that or something. I'm quite sure it will get as much positive response as the Milennium Falcon did. Yes, the stuff is that detailed."

I mean, no pun intended, but have you ever heard anything so PLASTIC?

This reminds me of the time Nimoy was on the Simpsons. Some dignitary in Springfield said "May the force be with you" to him, and Leonard replied "You have NO idea who I am, do you?"

They're mentioning the FALCON from STAR WARS when trying to make the new Enterprise design sound good?!?!

Why doesn't CBS just BUY Jar Jar from Lucas and put him in the crew while they're at it?

I'm sorry to have to use this line, but there's no choice...

"I've got a bad feeling about this..."

I look at "Ain't it Cool News" as media reporting, as I would "The National Enquirer" to hardcore journalism. In other words, a palm reading and divining rod are far, far more accurate, and just as trustworthy.

Look... "Aint it Cool News" is finally getting revealed as what it really is... a rumor-mill. I'll gladly read what they put out, but their right-to-wrong-ratio is pretty damned low. Just realize that they report "anything anyone tells us, or stuff we make up on our own," not "all the news fit to print." ;)

Robert Orci, ONE OF THE SCRIPTWRITERS, has stated in pretty clear terms (ie, by overtly MOCKING the various rumors being posted on there) that what's being reported has ZERO to do with the script he co-wrote. And he did so in a way that's not only CLEAR but also remarkably entertaining to watch! ;)

Relax... the only thing that came out of that bullshit "rumor-posting" is that AICN has egg on their face over having posted absolute lies about the script, which the scriptwriter actually debunked essentially immediately.

I remember when AICN started spreading their Trek rumors a couple of months ago, I talked about it as though it was worse than the National Enquirer, and several folks on here ripped into me over saying that.

Damn, it's good to be right all the time.

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

AICN is becoming more and more like the British tabloids every day.

Basically, if they print enough shit - then they'll be right on at least some of the points. I'd surmise that one or two bits of detail may be right but they surround it with so much out-and-out bollocks that they lose all credibility.

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

AICN is a low class joke. Has been since the beginning but people only now seem to be wise that.

There is a clear and simple choice. That choice is not to panic over stupid unsubstantiated rumors.

I dont know it all sounds sort of plausible, in a "re-inventing modern filmmaking" sort of way.

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

How plausible something sounds is a very weak basis for evaluating whether it is true or not. No one sets out to tell anything other than plausible lies, if they want their lies to be believed.

Something else from Orci:

I don't know the difference between a Federation ship and a ship from those bald butt forehead guys with the big ears. Yet you guys have to get me and the millions of people like me that have either fallen out of love with Trek or just never hopped on that particular band wagon to put down money to see this movie. Just how successful do you think your script is in accomplishing this goal? Will I, as someone who doesn't really care about the exploits of Kirk and Spock and surly doctor and Scotty and George Takai and black lady and Russian guy, want to watch this movie? More importantly, do you think I'll enjoy this movie from that viewpoint?

Yes, god damn it, yes! You will have few preconceived rules in your mind to get in the way of enjoying, if we do our jobs right, some amazing things about Star Trek that have never been done at this scale and value. And you will not be either LOST or PATRONIZED anymore than any Trekker who knows 40 years worth of stuff by heart. But what else do you expect me to say?

The amazing thing about the Internet is that practically anyone can type a load of old bollocks, its get quoted through the websites and comes back round and around again.

Great quotes from Orci.

Oh, the best part of how the Internet works is that these AICN rumors will be posted as rumors about two weeks from now on some general news site, picked up and reposted on Trek sites as new leaks confirming the AICN rumors.

Not to mention, they'll be used as justification/rationale why this movie's gonna suck by all the people who already hate the notion of it.

BTW: Was it AICN that originated the rumor re: Guardian Of Forever and time traveling Romulans?

I'm willing to bet a few quatloos the AP will print that first. :brickwall:

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

I don't know what AICN gets all this crap...they post rumors, and always qualify them by saying they were sent by anonymous sources so take with a grain of salt.

People here act as if AICN *writes* the rumors. They don't.

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

Every single bit about "time travel" in this film came from AICN, as far as I'm aware (can anyone give an example of some other source?).

That's why I've never accepted that it HAS to be "time travel" at all... other than that "one day per day forward-moving time travel" we all do. I really still expect, honestly, to see Nimoy's narrative as the, well, the NARRATIVE for this story. And I sort of expect that he's talking to someone. I said, once, that I expected it to be a young unidentified individual who'd eventually be shown to be a Romulan... and a Starfleet officer.

We'll see various timeframes. We KNOW that much. But that doesn't imply time travel... it could just as easily simply represent a storytelling style involving the literary "jumps and flashbacks" style of storytelling (implying it's more EPIC, and less of a "mission to Planet X of the week" story).

Of course, we all KNOW that Abrams doesn't like to use that sort of storytelling, so it therefore must be time-travel, huh? (SARCASM MODE: OFF)

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil

... just saying, I don't care if their rumours ARE true. Many most likely are (people talk, it's Hollywoodland after all), I don't care for their obnoxious sarcasm.

Re: Anyone else GAGGING over the AICN-based article? (spoil
