Anyone else feel that Star Trek VI is still the best?

I love this movie SO much, and I still feel the undiscovered country was by far the best movie in trek. Maybe even the best movie ever made.

Anybody else feel as passionately about this movie as I do?

The best movie ever made? Not by a long shot.

The best Trek movie ever made? I tend to think so, but you will get a quite vocal crowd explaining why the movie is crap on these boards, focusing on a few plot holes and some scenes of humor in their arguments. To each their own.

The best movie ever made? No.

The best Trek movie? I wouldn't go that far, but I do think it is among the best Trek movies & served as a great send off for the original crew.

What are the plot holes people complain about?

God knows. All I know is that it's bloody good fun, unlike TMP. The God Thing is no doubt preparing some Comic Book Guy quip to brand me a moron for saying that.

The tracking device Spock puts on Kirk, for one. Not that I care. It's a fun movie, and a poignant send-off for Kirk and his crew.

TMP is the best Trek. VI is around 5th or 6th for me.
I was truly interoducted to Trek via TMP so that may have something to do with it.
VI was just a murder mystery in space. Nothing too outstanding or thought provoking.

I consider Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country to be the best written of the Star Trek films.

So, yes, I do consider this to be the best Star Trek film out of all of them. It was a steep drop into mediocrity -- utter stupidity -- once GEN, FC, INS, and NEM came around.

It's definitely my favorite Star Trek movie. I think TWOK is pretty over-rated. I mean, it's fine, but it hasn't aged particularly well.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is definitely my favorite film. It captures the unique feel of its era -- the end of the Cold War, the transformation of the Soviet Union into the Russian Federation, the trepidation over US-Russian relations -- in a manner that no other Trek film has, explicitly linking the lives of the TOS crew to a historical context within the Trekverse. The feeling of great change, of endings and new beginnings, of fear and paranoia and the triumph of hope all permeate the film. Plus, cheesey Shakespeare quotes. I love it.

The beauty of the first six Trek movies is that they each had something unique to set them apart from the other. What you said, Sci, about Trek VI is what, IMO, makes it a really good film. It was timely.

Gotta echo the remarks about STVI's timeliness - both in the real world and in the trek fandom, as TOS gave way to TNG.
I love the film, It's probably my favourite of the original Trek films, although STFC takes the title overall (although for very different reasons).
I know a lot of people on this board have problems with this film ('the cast aren't racist!', 'Spock does not mind rape!'), and with Nick Meyer's production decisions generally in the TOS films (the naval bits - 'right full rudder'), but I very much enjoy STVI, it was an excellent send off for the original cast and completely redeemed them after STV.

It's up there. Definitely one of Trek's finest hours. I tend to forget about it sometimes, to be honest. I almost feel that the movie is underrated of sorts since The Wrath of Khan is made out to be the best of the Trek movies. I'll take this one over Khan!

I think it's far from the best movie ever made but I do think it's easily the best Trek movie. It has its flaws but I simply find it far more interesting and complex than any of the other Treks. Add to that the great music and usually great effects and you've got a great Trek movie as well as a great swansong for the original cast and crew.

I used to think that, then I got it on DVD a couple of years ago for my birthday and thought it wasn't that good.

Same with Wrath of Khan. I now think that's one of the worst of the lot.

It's a very entertaining movie, and I would put it as the 4th best Trek film. I'm not the biggest Valeris fan, but I have no axe to grind with TUC.

I think it's the best "quality" visually. It's a crisp, clean, and sharp visual image, both in the theater on film and on DVD.

The colors are colorful, the blacks are black... I just wish that all the films had that. TMP with TUC's level of Visual quality would have been amazing.

Overall though, I don't think any one of the TMP-TUC films stands on top. They all have their strengths. They all have their weaknesses.
