Anyone else feel like driving is like going to war?

Seriously, it seems like everyone drives like a twat. Everyone is in a major hurry and everyone is so rude. I used to be a confident driver but I'm quickly developing an anxiety that appears whenever I get behind the wheel. I'm on a PCP that ends at the end of the year. I'm seriously considering giving driving up.

Anyone else feel this way?

With all the damn potholes on my city's streets, driving IS like going to war.

That said, I really don't enjoy driving at all. Not even if there were no potholes and the other drivers were all paragons of virtue. Driving, to me, is nothing more than a chore. I only do it because I have to.

If I lived in a city like New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, etc. - indeed, any city which has an extensive mass transit system - I'd sell my car in a heartbeat.

Not particularly. There are odd times when it can be stressful (Rush hour or roadworks mostly), but otherwise I find it relaxing.

It's also somewhat necessary as though we have fairly decent public transport, to get to some of the places I do need to go to, you end up going in the wrong direction so (even in rush hour) travel time can be four times the amount it takes to drive directly.

We also have a pothole issue though:(

I have days like that, but the cunts are in the minority. I drive courteously and find that most other drivers do too. But the cunts, the cunts, they spoil it for everyone.

If I could give up driving, I would. I don't like dealing with the ever increasing aggressiveness. Unfortunately, I live out in the country. A vehicle is a necessity out here.

I kind of like it but my daily commute is short and our city is pretty small. If I had to drive regularly in a large city I know Id hate it.

Where do you live? Living in Los Angeles, my experience has been that most drivers here are safe, courteous and law-abiding. Of course, there's always the occasional asshole.

Personally I enjoy driving. That's why I'll never give up my manual transmission. With an automatic you're not really driving the car, you're just aiming it.

And what's a PCP (I assume you don't mean the drug)?

Stressful - depends on why/where/when. Driving a nice car (like my old Pontiac G8 GT - d**n you Hurricane Harvey) on a country road on a pretty day - absolute pleasure.

Driving ANYTHING in Houston's rush "hours" traffic can be Hell on Earth...

No joke. From Houston to Pearland, it's nothing but potholes. If I ever have to drive hubby to UH, I practically have an anxiety attack. And the other drivers all going 20 mph over the speed limit through the mass tangle of construction is enough to rattle even the most level-headed among us.

Of course - in addition to the "20 mph over the speed limit" crowd - there's always a couple of "20 mph under the speed limit" idiots in there as well... Just to add spice to the stew!

Okay, I don't drive... I admit defeat. I just sit in the car and offer advice to the lucky bastard who actually drives! My husband is lucky to have me as his co-pilot

Driving where I live is okay. I'd probably despise it in a big city.

Personal Contract Purchase

"A PCP deal is basically a loan to help you get a car. But unlike a normal personal loan, you won’t be paying off the full value of the car and you won’t own it at the end of the deal (unless you choose to)."

I live in rural England, I would've thought things would be worse in a big city like LA.

PCP is basically where you hire a car for 3 years instead of buying one outright, I find you generally want a new car every 3 years anyway so it seemed the sensible thing to do.

This morning had major direct experience of that. All I was doing was driving to get it serviced int he morning then back to pick it up.

Two separate occasions, there was a lane merge, I was 2/3 car length ahead of the car in the other lane, I accelerated a little to safely merge, and the other car accelerated MORE because they just HAD to be in front of me, one time I had to swerve and brake hard to avoid a side swipe.

Speaking of which to pass state inspection I had to replace BOTH the brake pads and the tires. I think I may be unknowingly riding the brakes too much, since it's the second time replacing both in the 60,000 miles I've driven with it.
