This page on TVTropes has a line (near the end of the "Live-Action TV" section) claiming that The Vulcans of Star Trek become intoxicated on chocolate. Anybody here ever heard of that, canon or otherwise?
Anybody see, hear, or read anything about Vulcans and chocolate?

There are rumors to this effect among fandom out on the interwebz. This phenomenon seems to occur sometimes in fan fiction. It's hard to pinpoint where it came from, though. There are a couple references out there to the STIV novelization, but in that book it is specifically sucrose that has such an effect on Vulcans, and it happens when Kirk gives Spock a mint wafer. Chocolate is not mentioned.
There are also vague references to Quark offering chocolate and Vulcan port to a Vulcan business associate, implying that both have the same effect on Vulcans. However, this must be from somebody's inaccurate memory. Quark certainly did offer Vulcan port to Sakonna, but not chocolate.

It’s definitely from fanon if memory serves me right! Vulcans aren’t affected by alcohol, but how entertaining would it be if something so innocuous as chocolate would make a Vulcan psuedo-drunk? I think it would be hilarious!
Another possibility as to why this is so popular is that people have pointed out how very cat-like Vulcans are, or think they’re descendants from cat-like creatures altogether. The episode with Spock commenting how he’s “strangely drawn” to the black cat probably propelled these fan theories from the beginning, and while chocolate is lethal for cats, how would it fair in an evolved humanoid body with feline ancestry? It’s a bit of a stretch, I know, but that’s another possible way to interpret the “chocolate gets Vulcans wasted” theory if you’re looking more into the fanon culture from the shows.

No lie, but back when I used to write fanfics, I had a Vulcan woman declare that chocolate was Humanity's greatest contribution to the Universe. Although quite a few starfaring civilizations had their own spin on chocolate, I had it all originally came from Earth, where it's still considered the best...
It's interesting how fanon can become so ingrained in a fandom that it leads people to think that it's official canon.

While I don't know about chocolate, but I do seem to recall at least one occasion where a Vulcan claims that alcohol has a unwelcome side-effect on the species, seeming to suggest it might make them lose their emotional control or become violent.
Yet on the same hand I remember one or two instances where a Vulcan willingly had a drink with no negative consequences.
Can anyone verify an instance in any series of either of these as I don't think I imagined them, yet I can't remember a specific episode?

As far as effects of alcohol on Vulcans, all I can think of is Spock's line from The Conscience of the King: "My father's race was spared the dubious benefits of alcohol." But then the spinoffs give us Vulcan port in DS9 and Vulcan brandy in VOY.
In Requiem for Methuseleh, McCoy makes some remarks about possible effects of alcohol on Spock, but Spock has some of the Saurian brandy anyway. Spock also drank the dark blue Romulan beverage with the Commander in "The Enterprise Incident." And he's drinking Romulan ale along with everyone else at the dinner in STVI:TUC. I think at the end of ST:FC we see Cochrane give the Vulcans some of his tequila, but we don't see what happens after they drink it.
