Speaking of comedies... here are some vids I've run across that just WON'T be slotted into an episode.
National Xenagraphic's "Xena in the wild" I don't know what parts are my fav... the "Xena.. being less fussy" vs the "malfunctioning night vision".

This is another clip from a "real" documentary... Double Dare" with Zoe Bell, Xena's stunt double. I love Zoe calling Lucy "her" acting double.

11 eps ago, season 6 premiered with a show called "Coming Home" which reintroduced the Greek Amazons. There we met Queen Marga and her Lieutenant Varia, http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm7MjGjBsZg/TJzSUVU_MaI/AAAAAAAAA6s/NCnI_yBSwvU/s400/amazons2.jpg
and we discovered the bad blood between Livia(Eve) and the Amazons.

Eve & Varia: (Ignore the Roman clips)
Since Eve and Gabrielle had to rescue Xena from a Furies influenced Ares at the end of that ep, we never did see any resolution of the disagreement between our friends and the Greek Amazons.
One of the things you should know about this next episode, is that this is an EXTREMELY Gabrielle lite story. Even more so than "Return of the Valkyries" where Gabby slept through most of the ep. I read somewhere that ROTV was a boon to the actress, because the time off helped her prepare for her 2nd directing job on Xena. Her debut directing job was a clip show in season 4 that was supposed to be shot in 4 days. This time it was a full out action adventure which was slotted to take 8 days to shoot. They picked this ep for the budding director, since she was only in the "bookends" as an actor, and she/they had already decided it was too distracting for her to direct herself.

Although there is a dvd interview about this ep, its not on youtube yet. (Sorry Saturn5) The part I remember laughing at the most was the film editor bemoaning his opinion of sweet little Renee being dashed forever when she was requesting "flesh ripping sounds" for a scene where Queen Marga is caught in a trap.
The dvd interviews also include the writer who notes the ep is an homage to a short story he read in highschool... The Dangerous Game. (If you want to read it... http://www.classicshorts.com/stories/danger.html )

Episode 123 season 6 # 11 "Dangerous Prey"
TEASER OPENS:
Queen Marga is running for her life! Eventually she falls and her hand is caught in a metal trap. Her hunter arrives as she pulls her hand from the trap (flesh ripping sounds) and they verbally spar.
Morloch: "Oh, and you Amazons have such a reputation."
Marga: "If you're gonna kill me, just do it!"

Gabrielle: (Refuses to be ignored) "Marga invited us here." (She then sees a friendlier Amazon and embraces her.) " Xana."
Xena: "What's goin' on here?"
Xana: (Somberly) "One of our warriors went missing in the sacred canyon. Every time we went to search for her another one of us disappeared. Finally, Marga went alone to find whatever was out there."

Xena and Varia have brought the dead Queen back to the Amazon Camp, where we get our final tete e tete between Xena and Gabrielle for the episode, so enjoy it while you can.

Xena: "It was all internal damage. It's pressure points, Gabrielle. Marga was meant to crawl back to camp before she died."
Gabrielle: "Why would someone do that?"
Xena: "So she'd bring us the message." (Suddenly she notices the ton of attitude is missing) "Where's Varia? Gabrielle, try to keep everyone in the camp till I find out what's goin' on."
What follows is a servicable enough ep, but it lacks a certain ingredient that I can only describe as... "Gabrielle".
I can imagine the Xenite fans, counting down their eps to the finale, bemoaning the time "wasted" on a Gabrielle "lite" ep. Heck, I did it myself in Voyager with Captain Janeway. (See Name of OP!)
The two actresses, in their various DVD interviews... and frequently in their con appearences, talk about finding the heart of the story, finding "the love"... and its not really there in DP. There are good things, don't get me wrong, and I love the fights in the caves and at the end... but after 122 eps, it just doesn't seem like "Xena" without Gabrielle.
Varia has run off to find what's killing her people, and runs right into a trap.

We discover the men trapping her work for a Prince who hunts humans for sport. Their Lieutenant thinks he'll enjoy hunting Varia... but when Xena arrives to save the silly Amazon, he discovers SHE'S the REAL prize and rides off to tell Prince Morloch.
After cutting down Varia, Xena charges her with watching their prisoner... but she fails at it when the man commits suicide. The fact that they fear their Prince more than death is LOST on Varia but NOT on Xena.
The fact that Varia, who's just stepped into one trap, and was about to step into another more deadly trap in her quest for vengence is also not lost on Xena.
Xena: "These men have a leader and they are more afraid of facing him than they are of death. What does that tell you?"
Varia: "All I need to know is where to find him." (She walks away when suddenly Xena triggers a trap Varia was about to step into!)
Xena: (Disgusted with the youth's arrogance) "There's a whole lot of things you need to know. This entire canyon is rigged like a hunting ground. There are traps
everywhere."
Varia: "A few little snares is not gonna stop me from finding Marga's killer." (Says the warrior who's already needed Xena to save her TWICE in the last 5 minutes!)
Xena: "I promised Marga that I would protect you."
Varia: "I don't want your protection." (She turns to stalk away)
Xena: "Varia!" (As the Amazon turns back towards Xena, Xena pulls up the metal trap by its long chain and SOMEHOW, DON'T ASK ME HOW, she throws it at Varia and encircles the Amazon's neck like a freaking dog collar!)

While Xena drags Varia through the forest (wishing, i'm sure, that she also had placed a gag on her), the minion runs back to tantalyze Morloch with the news of a new and interesting prey, worthy of his attentions.
Varia: "Let me go! Get this thing off me."
Xena: "Believe me, this chain's the best friend you've got right now."
Varia: "I lost my queen. Most of my tribe is gone. And you won't let me loose so I can stop the man who's killing them?"
Xena: "If you don't stop acting like a child and start trusting me to help me, this man will hunt your people to extinction."
Var: "You'd know about that. You wiped out a whole tribe of my sisters all by yourself." (And then she strikes Xena across the face. The WP just stands there, deciding what to do next.)
Xena: (Varia is sooo lucky!) "I'm gonna let that one go."
Varia: "I hate you!"
Xena: "Yeah? Well, it won't be the last time you say that. Come on."
Somewhere in the forest, they have discovered an old temple/building, and they take refuge inside.

Varia: "Yeah, but you..." (She looks into the WP's eyes... and realizes she has to "stop willing, stop desiring, stop hating" to get this teacher's respect.) "I'll work on it."

Then Xena's "spidey sense" goes into overdrive, and she has a strange request to her pupil.
Xena: "Something's not right. Varia, this is where you get to do exactly what I say when I say it."
Varia: "Just give me the word."
Xena: "Get ready to take your clothes off."
Get your minds out of the gutter! You know as well as I do, once Xena pulled Varia back into the bushes, what she was planning on doing. When the leathered warrior stepped back into view by herself,... Prince Morloch immediately became suspicious...

As the Amazon clad Warrior flanked his position, there was only one man not three kneeling at the overlook spot. Xena chakramed him anyway, to the applause of the "real" Prince standing nearby.

A great cat and mouse game occurs in the caves that Morloch leads her into... but before she goes in she exchanges clothes once more with her student. It wouldn't do to face her opponent in anything BUT her "sunday best". As might be expected, Varia rankles at the orders to "stay" outside and out of the fight.

Just as Morloch is about to kill the "disappointing" Amazon prey, Xena arrives and chakrams his sword in two while Varia skitters away.

Morloch's minion: "They're here, somewhere."
Xena: [Whispers] "This way, go"
His men have arrived to aide him, and Prince Morloch sends most off to deal with Varia as he and 2 others go in search of Xena.

As the Lieutenant leads the men off, he sees a pair of booted feet sticking out from a side corridor. When he turns the corner, instead of finding a prostrate Amazon, he finds a pair of boots next to a small keg. When he picks the boots up, a green liquid pours out of the keg and explodes as he and his men run for their lives.
The explosion if impressive, traveling far enough down the cavern's corridors that it even knocks down Morloch and his 2 minions.
Did I say knocks down? His 2 minions are killed in the blast, as Morloch stands up and looks about, suitably awed by his opponent's ingeniuity.
Outside the caves we see Xena and Varia walking away.

Morloch's Lieutenant tries to revolt against his orders to bring Varia to their camp, not seeing the benefit in dragging the half dead woman around. Of course, Morloch sees the benefit of appropriate "bait", and knows these Amazons are quick healers.

No real vids to add to this ep... but some tidbits. Poor Renee looks like she's about to be burned by her torch at the final out of the scene, as the wind blows. Makes me think of Lucy telling the story of her problems with the wind during Eli's funeral in season 5.
Both the actress that played Varia AND the actress that played Brunhilda were the final choices for these two roles. The producers weren't sure who should do what, then decided to go with "the blonde" for the Norse character. (Good choice.)

No real vids to add to this ep... but some tidbits. Poor Renee looks like she's about to be burned by her torch at the final out of the scene, as the wind blows. Makes me think of Lucy telling the story of her problems with the wind during Eli's funeral in season 5.
Both the actress that played Varia AND the actress that played Brunhilda were the final choices for these two roles. The producers weren't sure who should do what, then decided to go with "the blonde" for the Norse character. (Good choice.)

A reworking of The Most Dangerous Game (or the Robert Hansen murders) but a pretty good one, once again Xena get's a starstruck apprentice along for the ride whilst Gabby's busy behind the camera. If I recall my Greek myths it's actually Bellarophon who hunts the Amazons for sport but he doesn't show up until later
Along the lines of videos that don't quite fit the ep, may I present a filk sung by a former Xena costar, in fact a costar from the ep up "next". Can you guess which one?

Tim, they've been out for a while. I got the full set 1-6 at amazon last fall, but I'm sure you can buy them singly. (Yep, just checked). A couple of weeks ago I even found "her" at Sam's club, though to be honest I only found season 2 at our local one.
Have you seen season 1 yet?
Oh, and when the time comes, make sure you buy the "director's cut" of the finale... its far superior to the original broadcast version. (Its included in the "10th anniversary" collection).

At the cons on youtube over the last 2 years, they have specifically said "no new xena"... and if it came around again in "10 years" it would be with new actresses. (Think of the star trek reboot.)

The Romans scatter but the charioteer reigns in the horses and catapaults herself forward over them to stand in front of a very surprised Caligula. As all eyes are on the charioteer, a blonde woman squirms her way next to Eve, and draws her away to hide within the crowd.
Caligula: (To the stranger) "Well-- I don't know who you are, but I like your style."

Yeah much as I love this series I'm happy for it to end here, just wouldn't be the same without Lucy and renew (not even going to watch the new wonder woman series, no offence to the new girl but Lynda carter is ww)
