Well, 20 years after Xena 1st aired, she will be returning without subtext... unless that's what they'll call the tension between Xena and Ares.

Here's a May article proposing who in pop culture are rightly considered the "daughters" of Thelma and Louise.

This vid is only 5 days old. Gosh, I love this song.

This one is 5 years old and is worth showing because its GABRIELLE that's the star of the song. (It reminds me of Angie Harmon's "complaint" that in all the lesbian fan fiction about Rizzoli and Isles' "she" was always "the guy".)

If you want to bid in the 2016 Spring cleaning (Southern hemisphere) auction, Lucy's item for donation will soon be revealed.

It WON'T be her outfit from season 6's "Dangerous Prey". :alienblush: That one sold a couple years ago.

This next vid is only 2 weeks old and includes one vidder's fav quotes from the series. (It also includes another of my fav songs, so it makes the cut. ;) )

Here's a side by side vid of the Legos version vs the real credits. It explained to me who Legos Gabrielle was hugging (I'd forgotten). ;)

I never realized lego fan movies were such a big thing. :alienblush:

Here's someone's Legos movie from 3 years ago. I don't much think of their Gabrielle  in green pants, but their Joxer looks good. :bolian:

I suspected something like this was coming about, since there's been no word on the reboot since he delivered the script over a year ago.

Well, can't look forward to a Xena fix any time soon, but we still have Ruby!

Yeah, I've learned not to expect stuff like this to actually happen, until it actually happens.

Here's a quote or two from the former show runner on the subject.

https://www.themarysue.com/javier-grillo-marxuach-leaves-xena-what-now/

One wonders what was the hang-up and whether he will eventually post his failed xena script on his "design bureau" archive of "Pitches, Scripts, and Samples" . (No, its not there yet... I checked.)

Maybe we should get a showrunner who knows a thing or two about these characters and has the wherewithal to fight for them.

I suspect if the new Wonder Woman movie does as well as I think it will, we will see more pressure on the networks / cable / prime channels to give us a 21st cent version of Xena WP.

Realistic to our ages? :cardie:

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...ed-possible-reboot-renee-oconnor-reveals.html

Renee is expecting a lot from her XWP fanatics. ;)

The above article links to this next discussion re: why Wonder Woman is such a great movie.

http://www.etonline.com/news/219010_lessons_wonder_woman_can_teach_the_entire_superhero_genre/

And except for the lack (?) of women directors (only 4 eps out of 134 were directed by women, 2 of which were done by Renee) those ^ same comments could easily be referring to Xena WP's 6 year TV run. :vulcan:

Ahhh, at least this article acknowledges someone came BEFORE WW broke the cinematic glass action hero ceiling.

I still think Xena should be rebooted as a "modern" day activist. If TPTB want her to be saddled with guilt like in her Thracian incarnation, they could have her be responsible for causing .. or responsible for not preventing some horrendous environmental tragedy like the 1984 Bhopal disaster.

https://www.britannica.com/event/Bhopal-disaster

A middle aged woman with $$$ in her corporate eyes pre-disaster could have an epiphany during Bhopal and disappear in the Himalayas for "3 years" of meditation and training to emerge in the late 1980's to tackle issues around (for example) Chernobyl's melt down in the Soviet Union, the genocides in Africa, the oil spills from the Exon Valdez in the 80s and wars / oil fires in the Kuwaiti desert in the early 90's.

Along the way she keeps encountering an heiress turned free lance journalist documenting these same atrocities and eventually they decide to travel together righting wrongs and telling the stories of people caught under the boot of corporate, governmental and religious zealots. :censored:

By placing the story later in life, Renee won't have to worry about whether her body could keep up with gladiator boot camp.

Ding dong the Warrior is dead.

This next link belongs in the "when life hands you lemons... make lemonade" department.

https://moviepilot.com/p/xena-reboot-needed-to-be-canceled/4357053

This one too.

https://www.themarysue.com/xena-be-warned-xena-beware/

This next article talks about the "bury your gays" trope, which, when you think about it, is what the original show did to half of its team.

http://uproxx.com/hitfix/xena-reboot-nbc-canceled/

I suspect this next type of thinking...

"It’s believed that these [creative differences] may have related to Grillo-Marxuach’s desire to put the romantic relationship between Xena and Gabrielle front and center."

...did contribute to the cancellation.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat...lans_for_a_xena_warrior_princess_revival.html

Not because of the lesbian relationship, per se, but because NBC didn't want a " Harlequin Romance Novel".

NBC probably wanted a Kick a$$ / Take names... See the moral high ground? / Take the moral high ground! type of show, and if it could make us laugh occasionally... they wouldn't complain.

Oh, and if Xena happens to be sleeping with her traveling companion, that's a side bar. Not to be ignored in the land of subtext, but also not to be so in your face that we have to have "sensitive chats" every time some guy or gal flirts with one or another of our dynamic duo and their noses got out of joint. The few times that happened in the show made me happy it did NOT happen more often.

CALL ME, NBC. I have a few ideas to run by you.

The first is to remind Rob Tapert that Cecrops IS immortal.

This next article is just good natured fun, though highly inaccurate. ;)

Xena has more than ONE outfit! :rommie:

http://www.nwaonline.com/news/2017/sep/16/xena-or-kate-who-is-the-better-princess/

This is a nice roundup, except equating LL's presence in Spartacus with her role in "Parks & Rec" or even worse wit her stint in "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" is an insult.

http://www.cbr.com/hercules-and-xena-where-are-they-now/

Also, they forgot to mention Rose McIver who played the child who channeled Xena in "Little Problems" along with a couple of eps on HLJ's to recurring eps of TV shows as diverse as "Power Rangers", "Masters of Sex", "Once upon a Time" (Tinker Bell) to her current starring role on "IZombie".
