Any vehicles that stand out as pieces of junk in the area you live in?

I live in Southeastern Kentucky. It is known that wealth (or much money at all) is not commonplace in these parts. A lot of people are on food stamps, welfare, disability, etc. As such, not a lot of people drive around in "fancy" vehicles. That's not to say that there aren't vehicles that are older, per se, that aren't in pristine, albeit good condition. However, there are a few vehicles out there that would qualify as being "pieces of shit." And by "pieces of shit," I mean, stenches of burnt oil emanating from the exhaust, cars scrapped together using two different colors of vehicle. So, you might see a green hood combined with red doors or a blue trunk hatch. These types of vehicles haven't been washed in ages, are viewed from the Walmart parking lots as being cluttered (or hoarded up) with junk and garbage.

Which brings me to my question. As a resident in this area (and, apparently, being the only person who knows how to fucking DRIVE in this godforsaken state), I observe quite a bit about the vehicle types that cut me off and then proceed to drive 20-25 mph under the speed limit. I've observed that there's one make and model of car that I've NEVER seen a pristine version of. A make and model that is usually junked up, in an ill-state of repair, that would fail every test known to man at a DMV. And that make and model is....

A Chevy Trailblazer.

I've never, not in one instance, seen a Trailblazer that is washed, has a matching paint job, that isn't belching black, oily smoke from its exhaust. And these vehicles are VERY commonplace around here. Not a single one has been in a condition where I've thought, "Damn. They've really put some time and effort into said vehicle's upkeep!"

So, what say you? Are there any vehicles in your respective location that stand out as being in ill-repair? A vehicle that you've never seen a pristine version of? Let me know!

There are tons 'o Toyotas (aka "Toy Yodas") scattered throughout southeast Texas that fit that description. Lots of old Crapolas with severe rust on all upper surfaces and pumping out smoke (usually not registered and I won't bother to mention who often drives them).

There are some old Chevy Trailblazers around here that look beat up but, not quite as bad as you described... Beat up pickups of all brands and descriptions also abound, along with old Chevy/Ford full-size vans with pealing paint (though seemingly running okay).

The worst drivers generally seem to be the ones driving Lexus, Infinity, Acura, BMW, Mercedes etc...

Yeah Trailblazers are the WORST around here. Second place would have to go to mid-90s Silverados or Honda Civics

My local bad traffic seems to be composed primarily of two types:

1. Texan immigrants driving overly large, overly loud, black-cloud-spewing Dodge Compensators and Ford Viagras, and

2. Kias, driven by insane Office Karens with nasty, pinched faces who cannot get the FUCK off their phones for ONE MINUTE.

This is less the cars being junk than the people, tho.

I've seen the "Rollin' Coal" types outside of Texas plenty of times so, I'm not sure that's really a Texas thing (hate them anyway - and I'm a native Texan).

Lots of idiots around constantly babbling on their cell phones - or worse - trying to text their friends while driving. Actually, calling them idiots is an insult to ordinary idiots...

Tornado hit our community on Easter so a lot of the cars took a pounding. I only recently got the glass replaced on our second car. The motorcycles and our first car somehow survived without trouble.

I don't really much care for this thread if its just the intention to poke fun at people who have to drive what they can to keep going. I was poor as hell when I was young and a young parent. I drove things that ran on nightly applications of a thrift store tool set, sheer luck, and trips to Pep Boys. They were ugly cars, unloved cars and one even blew up (gas dripping on a manifold, the investigators determined). When you don't have a lot of money you don't get the option to really do much but laugh at your own predicament at the best of times and plan for better days.

The worst that ever happened was wrecking my '71 Maverick. It was actually a good car and I liked it quite a bit. The upholstery had been redone, the headliner was remarkably intact and someone had replaced the vinyl top with brown metal-flake paint that looked better. It had problems with the fuel filter from tank sediment, but I kept a spare and if it got clogged I'd pull over, disconnect it from the carb, blow it out and hook it back up.

I used it while going to college. Then one day I wasn't paying attention coming off a bridge after classes and rear-ended an old pickup truck and crumpled my fender. I had no money and I wont even go into my insurance situation. It was the early 90s. Dude gets out of the truck and he looks rough. I wasn't sure if he wanted to kick my ass, but he probably did. I didn't even scratch his bumper. He took one look at me and said "I ain't dealing with the cops" got back in his truck and drove on in a hurry. He REALLY did not want to deal with the cops. It occurred to me I didn't either.

I pried the fender by hand off the tire and got the hell out of there before pd wanted to check my insurance, or the victim thought twice about it and decided he had a neck ache. I took off school and work the next day, went to a junk yard, found another fender in an avacado green that didn't really match the white of the rest of the car (apart from the brown metalflake which it also did not match), unbolted it, took it home, bolted it onto my now extremely ugly maverick and rode out the year in it till i eventually sold it. I sometimes wish I still had it.

Drove a worn out Red (by that time Orange) '75 Camaro for about 6+ years and despite looking like a junker, it kept going until literally the day after I traded it in for a new car around '90.

Cold as crap that winter and the dealer left that old thing out in the weather all night. They were somehow shocked that it wouldn't start the next morning! Huh...I wonder why?
