Any TOS fans unable to go back to the old series?

Yeah yeah, I know, watching this film does not make your old tapes, DVDs etc dissolve instantly before you get back home. But you can have such a thing as a tainted product, you don't like one branch of the franchise, it knocks onto others. And I ask this here in case you're so shocked that you can't get back into the TOS forum at all.

For me, twas no problem at all, I even popped on the "creature" episode of TAS for my daughter today (The Ambergris Element in case you didn't get that one, neither did I without futher questioning :p). I was able to sit through the final quarter of TUC too that I just caught on Sky yesterday.

I don't think it kills off or taints anything, the performances were just the right side of homage than parody for my liking. I can't wait to get the DVD come November, till then I have a whole three seasons and six films to tide me over.

I never stopped! Almost every night i watch an original series episode (i've been rewatching in order)....i watch TOS while i make dinner. Its perfect, since usually i see the entire ep from start to finish during cooking/preparing time.

in the evening i have been rewatching TNG episodes (i started rewatching a couple of weeks ago...starting with TBoBWs (i skipped the first couple of seasons)....

Honestly, i think TOS is even more enjoyable and sweeter than ever before!

this is a joke, right?
speaking as someone in their mid-20s, this movie turned me on to TOS. i freakin loved it, and as i have a compulsion to take in original source material, it became imperative to see every episode, to get a good feel for the characters. if anything, TOS might have ruined the movie for me if the film hadn't been pretty damn good. i wanna hug each and every member of the cast and crew for working so hard to recreate the essense of it, and the actors were just the bee's knees, taking characters to their hearts and giving us something that would have seemed to be gone forever.
....i hope scotty is better developed in the next one, but that is the only somewhat negative thing i have to say about it.
suffice it to say, thanks JJ!

WOW! Reading your post really made me smile big time! Originally, I was so afraid the new movie would turn people in your age bracket off to TOS...thinking the effects were cheesy or whatever. BUT both you and my son (who is almost 25) are putting my worry aside. He too says he wants to see TOS now more than ever! AWESOME!!!!!:techman::techman:

Remastereds are suh-weet . Before HD-DVD lost out, we bought season one HD-DVD, remastered; and it was an eye popper.

Well if you ever upgrade to Bluray their available in that format, well the first season is you may have to wait for 2 and 3.

Yeah, we are getting blu-ray. It is kind of a bummer that I have to wait for seasons 2 and 3 again; but I'm focusing on the new movie first anyway.

IMO, TOS on blu-ray will be TOO much definition. As it is I can see where the make-up on Spock's ears is applied. Standard DVD upconverted is where I end it.:techman:

Oh, no; I didn't mind seeing every bead of perspiration on the HD-DVD's. The clarity is beautiful.

No matter what new Trek comes out, no matter how good or bad a new adventure is, I'll always be able to go back and watch the original. Nothing could taint my love for the 60s series, and many a girlfriend has tried.

I had almost no desire to watch TOS before I started to get interested in seeing the movie. I thought the trailers made the movie look pretty sweet and when I found out Zachary Quinto was in it, it was a done deal. I saw the movie, loved it, and wanted more. Took me about a month and a half to watch all of TOS.

I adored TOS and I have a great deal of respect for the original cast and crew. Honestly though, I think I enjoy the new movie a bit more. Its what turned me on to this fandom. I do love it all though!

The level of being able to see every zipper & painted wooden wall & smudged make-up on Shatner's head just short of the widow's peak hair addition in upconverted standard DVD is quite sufficient for me at this point- any more would be distracting IMO. :guffaw:

On your first date you need to ask one simple question. What do you think of Star Trek? If they say I hate it, that's a deal breaker right there.
It's how I found my soulmate.;)

That long?

That's the important thing !:techman:

Like a few others in this thread, the movie is what got me interested in the original series. I absolutely love it. I'm 24 myself, but the sometimes clunky effects or general cheese factor doesn't turn me off. In fact, I think that's part of its charm! It's nice to watch a show that doesn't take itself too seriously; Star Trek TOS isn't afraid to be a goofball now and then.

However, I'm someone who will also watch 60's Batman with great delight. :D

That reminds me of when I was at my boyfriend's (now husband's house). A friend of his was over and I said "oh, the Next Generation's on now" and grab the clicker to turn it on. He looks over at my boyfriend "She's a *girl* and she *likes* Star Trek! She's perfect." As it turns out I'm the bigger fan of the two of us.

Oh, and I love watching the old series. It had been a long time since I had seen it so I was a bit afraid it'd seem hokier than when I was in my teens. But it doesn't- I think I love it more in fact.
