Glad to see it's still doing well. I think one of the articles I read said it hasn't opened in China yet, so that could help with the box office some more.
IIRC it just opened, maybe 9/16?
Then Japan is later this month as well.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! I'd cheered when Wright left the project, as his hyperactive editing gave me a headache a half-hour through Scott Pilgrim, and am now even more convinced that the movie was better off Peyton Reed, even if a few of Wright's influences/ideas made it into the finished film.

Also, how great to see a San Francisco-set summer adventure movie that doesn't trash the place! (I'm looking at you, Apes, Into Darkness, Godzilla, San Andreas...) I could quibble and say that there are definitely no backyard pools in that part of town, and that the City never gets enough insects to prompt a family to get one of those zappers, but that whole scene was so hilarious I didn't mind. Indeed, I didn't see any really glaring geography errors overall, as it's perfectly plausible that Scott asked for a longer drive back to the City through the Marin Headlands on his first afternoon out of San Quentin. And, of course, having Michael Douglas in SF is itself a nice callback to Fincher's The Game and Basic Instinct.

Marvel Studios is now 12 for 12 in terms of making good movies. Truly amazing. :bolian:

I did appreciate that Ant-Man was set in San Francisco. I understand that several Marvel creators were from New York and it was easier for them to set their stories there, but with the movies that restriction need not apply. Sure, keep heroes there whose identities are directly linked with the city, like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, etc., but that doesn't need to apply to everyone. I really liked that Tony Stark resided in Southern California in his solo movies, and that Steve Rogers lived and worked in the D.C. area in The Winter Soldier. Spreading the heroes out makes the world feel bigger.

Spreading it out is quite good. Although some whose scope is global anyway would be fine being in New York. Captain America is traveling worldwide, for example. It's fine if he lives in New York since he is a kid from Brooklyn.

"ANT-MAN" had a few flaws. But I'm giving it an overall grade of "A" due to its originality (for a Marvel film) and witty script. It turned out to be my second favorite movie of the summer.

Ant-Man & the Wasp - July 6, 2018

The sequel has been announced.
The shifting in Marvel's Phase 3 moves up Black Panther and pushes Captain Marvel back. It also seems they've slotted 3 places for what is likely to be the opening films of Phase 4 coming out of Infinity War part. 2. Keeping a 3 films a year plan for now.

In order to accommodate, "Captain Marvel" has been pushed back again to March 8, 2019 from November 2, 2018 and "Black Panther" has moved forward to February 16, 2018 from November 2, 2018. Additionally, three untitled projects were announced, with release dates of May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020 respectively.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3
Captain America Civil War: May 6, 2016
Doctor Strange: Nov 4, 2016
Guardians/Galaxy vol.2: May 5, 2017
Spider-man via Sony: July 28, 2017
Thor Ragnarok: Nov 3, 2017
Black Panther: Feb 16, 2018
Avengers Infinity War pt.1: May 4, 2018
Ant-Man & Wasp: July 6, 2018
Captain Marvel: March 8, 2019
Avengers Infinity War pt.2: May 3, 2019
Inhumans: July 12, 2019

Wow, so Wasp will be beating Captain Marvel to a feature.

I hope I get to see all of those.

So we're actually getting Black Panther sooner. That's a pleasant change from the way these MCU additions usually only push movies back.

Bummer to hear about Captain Marvel. Nice to see BP has been moved up, but it has a late winter slot. :/ We'll see how Deadpool preforms, to see if CBM can survive in that time of the year.

It is a shame Capt. Marvel is being pushed back, but I am happy to hear about more Ant-Man. I hope the fact that the Wasp is actually in the title means she'll get in on even more than she did in the first one.

With Wasp in the title I interpret that to mean the character will have about an equal amount of screen time as well. As long as Hope isn't relegated into the damsel in distress trope. However, since Marvel hasn't really placed it's female heroines into that role I'm not expecting it for Hope either.

With Wasp in the title and what revelations we had with Scott coming back from the Microverse I'm also leaning towards a strong idea of somehow bringing Jan back....having 2 Wasps in this film even.

I would like to see something that's half-sequel and half-prequel and see one of Hank and Jan's adventures.

Yes! It doesn't necessarily need to be the Scott Lang Ant-Man, it could be Hank and Jan, although I doubt it will be.

I have a feeling with the Infinity War and all of the dimension warping powers involved, Wasp may just pop out of the Microverse some time.

Ant-Man had a big opening day in China, something like $12.5M, and has a pretty good shot at making $100M there overall, pushing it's worldwide total past $500M.

Yes, Marvel's first failure. They never should have lost Edgar Wright. He could have saved it if he had another 7 or 8 years with it.

This film has finally entered the discount theater run across the US this past weekend. With that it added enough to it's total to cross $179m domestic. That leaves it $2m+ away from Thor 1. Some films are timed so that the discount run adds another $2-3m to their total. I think $180m is for sure going to happen but we'll just have to see how A-M holds at the discount chains.

In other good news it pulled in another $23m+ in it's second weekend of release in China. Placing it's Worldwide total at $493m, locking the film for a $500m+ finish on a $130m budget. The lowest budgeted MCU film with it's C-list character. Well done Peyton Reed & Feige, well done.....Edgar Wright who?

With Ant-Man getting additional exposure in CA:Civil War I'd look for the sequel, Ant-Man & Wasp, to open and finish better in a few years. Especially given the rumored spoiler for the character in Civil War.
