another new uniform pic

Definately the arrowhead. I wouldnt worry about the "communicator". Probably JFX dont really know what they are talking about.

They dont obsess as much about this shit as us lot.

Reminds me a bit of an Imperial Officer's uniform in Star Wars. Perhaps she's going to report losing the Millennium Falcon to Lord Vader.

It's becoming apparent that cylindrical orange pylons are going to play a large part in this movie.

That and the rather large space tanker with wheels in the background.

Seems like space tankers with wheels are going to play are large part. Maybe thats how Spock and the Romulans travel back in time.

Or is it the cylindrical orange pylons? Maybe they travel back in time by parking a large space tanker near a cylindrical orange pylon?

The "cylindrical orange pylon of forever"?

Would that be covered in Ellisons agreement?

I think it'd be nice if the shipboard uniforms had a similar cut, but with the colored tops that match the classic series. That said, the uniforms and their color are pretty far down on my list of concerns.

if they arnt careful the red uniform (with hat) will end up looking like Stanley Tweedle uniform in Lexx

Yep... definitely a hat. Definitely part of the uniform. Definitely never WORN on screen, but...

Now, as a side note... I looked at that uniform, and know what I thought? My gut reaction was "that's a Starfleet Marine."

What we're seeing here, so far, more than anything else is VARIETY added to the uniforms. What we've seen so far seems to likely include the following:

1) Vulcan civilian garb.
2) Pre-TOS Starfleet athletic garb (jogging suit).
3) Post-TNG Starfleet Uniforms.
4) Romulan uniforms different than what we're used to (ie, not silver quilted stuff).
5) TOS-era green crewmen jumpsuits.
6) Dark grey Starfleet military garb (with the Enterprise arrowhead).
7) Science fatigues (in all-white).
8 ) Some sort of variant which COULD be a pre-TOS uniform (but we've only seen the collars for those).

Oh, and "a combadge?".... :wtf:

Anyone who sees the "Enterprise Arrowhead" on a uniform and thinks that wasn't present on the TOS uniforms clearly has NEVER watched a single episode of the original show.

It was TNG that changed the breast patch into a piece of functioning technology. Prior to that, it was a patch (TOS and prior, plus TMP), with it later on being a pin as well (some TMP uniforms and all post-TMP uniforms). But the insignia was ALWAYS THERE.

Go watch an episode of TOS, willya? ;)

*looks at pics*

Not to sound like the morons I can't stand, but, "OMG, I lurve it!"

The fact is, we don't have any context, so we don't know exactly what it is. That being said, it's actually a nice-looking uniform. I woudn't be too embarrassed if I was caught wearing that, y'know what I mean?

In Kirk's era each ship had it's own emblem. Then, by ST:TNG, Kirk's Enterprise emblem was adapted by Star Fleet as it's symbol.

Actually, that had pretty much happened by the time of The Motion Picture.
Right. As I recall, Roddenberry decided to go ahead and make that largely universal for starship-assignments as of TMP. The REAL justification was to save money on costume redressing, of course. But the in-universe explanation was that the Enterprise was the only one of the original twelve uprated Constitutions sent out on the "five-year-mission" to expand the borders of known space to return essentially intact (others obviously survived, but were damaged in combat or suffered catastrophic issues making them unservicable... we saw several instances of that ourselves, with the Exeter, Lexington, etc) So to honor the Enterprise crew, they made the Enterprise symbol the official symbol of all Starship crews.

(As a side note, I'm sure that went over like a lead balloon among the crews of other ships...) ;)

My understanding was that the Enterprise was the only vessel to return with its crew essentially intact. (I think that was from Roddenberry's TMP novelization?)

Which is pretty alarming, given the degree of redshirt attrition we saw during the series.

Indeed. Maybe that's why Kirk and Co. were so full of themselves in the later movies....

Well, I did think "Gomer Pyle" but I showed this to a friend and he said:

Looks about as stylish as those unisex fatigues that all the Chinese
had to wear during the glorious days of Chairman Mao.

Clearly then, this is further proof the UFP is just another communist state. :P

The whole outfit says "Forbidden Planet" to me. Interesting. I can't wait to see how it looks with the interior sets. The one Chapel location is awe inspiring w/o any CGI extensions.

When did we see a post-TNG Starfleet uniform?

Indeed. Meet the two newest members of the crew, Commander Tennant and Lieutenant Lowe:
