another new uniform pic

... first thing I thought was it looked practical, and somewhat Cultural Revolutiony. Maybe Trek is 'commie' after all.

But I like it, as a costume. I'm surprised it has an enterprise ensign on it! Of course we've seen dozens of costumes on TOS enterprise (all those background people rushing about), this could be one of those.

But does this mean the enterprise symbol will now be the star fleet symbol??? Nah... and hey this costume may not be in that timeline, for all w know. Interesting, this "hat incident' is the best spy photo since Saruman was shot impaled on a frickin' wheel of spikes.

No. So... you're a moron?

I think I've been quite clear what I'm saying. And I think I've been quite clear about how Star Trek's rank and command structure is based almost entirely on the US Navy model.

If you really, really don't want to pick up on that, that's your call. But don't you DARE try that sort of snide bullshit with me. You know goddamned well what I was saying and your "cute" attempt to turn it into something mockable says more about you than about anyone else.

Cary L. Brown, I'm afraid you have a warning for flaming.

Please stop referring to other posters as 'morons'.

Any issues with this warning can be addressed via PM.

Thanks.

And Basil, you need to chill as well or you'll get the next warning.

Thanks.
For the record, for all involved:

Basil's comment: "So you were a Starfleet Cadet?" clearly was one of three things:

1) He actually believed that I was a Starfleet cadet, or

2) His reading comprehension was so low as to cause him to believe that I had stated that I was a Starfleet cadete, or

3) He was making a mocking comment, very much a "flame" in every reasonable sense.

If either of the first two were the case, he would have been, as stated, a moron. If it wasn't, but rather it was the third option... which, by the way, is what I believe to have been the case... then I was NOT "calling him a moron."

He was either flaming me... albeit in a rather underhanded fashion... or he was demonstrating a total lack of connection to reality.

So, evidently, the rule here is "be as nasty and insulting as you want, as long as you're underhanded and snotty about it. But if you say something straightforward, even if in response to someone else's snotty and insulting comment, that's not allowed."

Nice to have the rules clarified. As someone who was horribly flamed by T-Bonz last year (I didn't think that the "word replacement joke" implemented was very funny, said so (basically saying that it wasn't funny and was really just tremendously ANNOYING) and was called all variety of names by T-Bonz in public comments because of it), I still find this ... fascinating.

Okay, then... I'll be nice to the poor widdle fact-maker-uppers. Anyone... you want to make up your own facts (ie, LIE) and spout it as though it's truth... I'll let it go. Who gives a damn about what's true and what's false. If Basil wants to say that cadets never get time off... THAT IS NOW OFFICIALLY TRUE. I'll call West Point, Annapolis, etc, etc, and have them change reality. Wouldn't want to offend anyone.

i see it as a 50 / 50 shot either way...

But it's not.

The evidence that these costumes - in three or four colors so far - are being used in the film is that "spy" photographers hovering around shooting locations keep getting photos of numbers of people wearing them.

The evidence that all these outfits are hoaxes is...okay, there's no evidence whatever to suggest that. It's simply an unfounded suspicion on the part of several fans.

Not 50/50 - not even close.

1. Snarky remarks, while ill-advised and could EVENTUALLY lead to a warning if continued after the mod tells a poster to stop (as is the case here), are not flaming.

2. Calling someone a 'moron' IS flaming. And don't give me any bullshit hair-splitting response about how you weren't doing so in cases X, Y, or Z....because that dog don't hunt.

3. This is not the place to discuss your issues with the warning given. Please follow the prescribed procedure.

4. In my humble opinion, you are taking the conversation in this forum WAAAAAYYYYYYY too seriously. You might have more fun if you just...oh...lighten up a wee bit. ;) Remember...it's only a movie. :)

I found this on the IMDb ST board:

My friend is a film editor in California ( he edited that tribute to Shatner you might have seen) anyway, he went to a casting call for Star Trek and is a cadet extra. He said the uniforms are definitely the real ones that have been posted on here. Also Pine had a line right by him and its when all the cadets are marching to the ships to go to war, and the Commander is reading off the graduates names, and Kirks name isn't called, so he runs over to ask why. Thats all I got, not trying to be cool by posting this just thought you guys would like to know.

Sounds a bit like Starship Troopers... Sounds also like merde...

Starship Troopers is my favourite Nazi movie! The pretty people getting slaughtered by giant bugs! Don't knock the propaganda!

Spock (to Kirk): "You should make a convincing Nazi, captain." - Patterns Of Force

Now that's an interesting rumor.

Sounds plausible.

Given the number of bit players and extras that we've seen in spy shots, and given that they must all have friends and associates who would love to hear about their work on the movie (out of interest in Abrams and Quinto, if not Trek) then it's reasonable to think that more than a couple of these stories will surface - even with cautionary "non-disclosure" clauses, there's no way that they can't, really.

Interesting.

I wonder what he means by "all the cadets are marching to the ships to go to war." Is the Federation actually at war at this point, or is this maybe just garbled portion of the rumor? Wargames, maybe?

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that these are the cadet uniforms. I like them.

Didn't think I was doing anything wrong since I was just responding to him in a similar manner to how he responded to someone else in another post:

A printer? I think not. They won't use those Pike era references just like they won't use lasers.

Really? So you've been through a time machine and know this with absolute certainty?

There didn't appear to be any warning or similar comment there. But I'll certainly respect the board's etiquette. Thanks for letting me know.

They sort of look like an evolved version of the Enterprise uniforms.

Which, if true, makes some evolutionary sense since it's hard to imagine ALL Starfleet outfits with flaps, pockets and head gear completely vanishing between the end of ENTERPRISE and the TOS era. Even the landing party wraparounds in "The Cage" had pockets and velcro.

Just a quick clarification on Finnegan and his age/the uniform he wears (I'm looking at you Timo):

1) The Finnegan Kirk confronts is from fifteen years earlier (which is 4-5 years before Kirk went off on the Farragut)

2) Finnegan describes *himself* as twenty years old

3) Finnegan calls Kirk a "plebe" which is a *first year Naval Academy student*. Kirk was younger than Finnegan.

Logical conclusions:

Finnegan and Kirk were in Star Fleet Academy. Neither were returnees. Neither were Lieutenants. Finnegan was 20. Kirk was 18 or 19 (Kirk is 34 in the second season episode "The Deadly Years".

Finnegan's uniform was a Starfleet Academy uniform.

Agreed. Which is what many if not most uf us surmised long ago. Shiny, glittery tunics are Academy pullovers. I sort of guessed that long ago and non-canon books like the TOS/Pike-era Academy stories reinforced this using artwork of a young Kirk in a Finnegan-like shirt.
