Another Lit Wish List Thread

We've done this before, and I think it's so much fun that I decided to bring it up again.

If the speed of publishing and the consideration of marketablity were disregarded and we could just wish for any Trek lit we wanted, what would be your ultimate wishlist?

Mine:

  • ENT: Anthology- Fill in some gaps, finish some old storylines, and show more Relaunch era stories.
  • TOS: Captain April, Book 1- Disregarding the 2 old April novels, start from the launch of the Enterprise. Being in line with IDW's Crew would be a plus.
  • TOS: Early Voyages- Wrap up the comic series and continue on with Captain Pike's crew.
  • TOS: Crucible Reprint/ Anthology- The planned reprint with more short stories.
  • TOS: Ex Machina Era, Book 2 (3?)- Christopher has hinted that the upcoming DTI prequel will fullfill this wish, but a third book would be welcome as well.
  • TOS: The Darkness Drops Again Era, Book 2- Again, in line with Christopher's portrayal of the era between the 2nd five-year mission and the start of TWOK.
  • TOS: Enterprise-A Era, Book 3- Following Probe and In the Name of Honor, heading towards The Blood-Dimmed Tide.
  • TOS: Excelsior, Book 2- Follows up on Forged in Fire.
  • TOS: Enterprise-A Era, Book 4- Basically, how did things end up the way they were in TUC?
  • TLE: Anthology- Sequels to Enterprise-B and -C stories, Sisko and Janeway on their previous ships, and more Lost Era goodness.
  • TNG: Enterprise-E Anthology- Could fill in some gaps, feature more Data before his death, have DS9 and New Frontier crossovers, and then proceed into the TNG Relaunch era.
  • DS9: Ascendants- The anticipated culmination of that storyline.
  • DS9: Relaunch Anthology- Mostly filling in the gap between The Soul Key and the Typhon Pact books, including DS9 during Destiny.
  • VOY: Relaunch Anthology- Tales of the Full Circle Fleet
  • Titan: Anthology- This could be cool, fill in some gaps, and have some prequels.
  • DTI, Book 2- Having read Watching the Clock yet but I'm so excited about it I hope it's not a one-off.
  • The Fall of Section 31- Teased in The Good That Men Do, but hasn't materialized yet. This would be a very interesting peek into the future of TrekLit.
  • And of course continue Enterprise Relaunch, Vanguard, TNG Relaunch, DS9 Relaunch, Voyager Relaunch, New Frontier, Titan, and "Aventine".

Those post-STXI novels.

A USS Kelvin series, very subtly tying into Final Frontier, Best Destiny and The Final Reflection.

Shatnerverse: Trial Run.

The Captain April lifestory based on Diane Carey's version of the chatacter.

Something bringing Janeway back to Voyager.

I'd love to see the following?

Prequel to ENT: what happened after First Contact and them the forming of Star Fleet and it's early days. Maybe the main character could be Archers Father.

DS9: The missing 5 years

More stuff like DTI Star Trek books that focus on areas other than Star Fleet.

Lost Era: Another round maybe one featuring Janeway on the Albatani

Even though there's no possible way those books could be reconciled with the Trek universe as we now understand it?
The inconsistancies (details about Klingons and pre-TOS technology) can be ignored or glossed over. I'm not talking about direct sequels or prequels. Vague allusions to events such as the attempted Klingon/human peace mission of the 2230's (which would've been big news) would work fine if done right. Characters like Robert April and Dr. Tagore could be worked in. George Kirk's backstory could be draw from details in Carey's books.

I'd like to think that most of my "wish list" ideas are at least somewhat reasonable:

- Continuation of the TNG relaunch with the new status quo and crew in place (hopefully with Miranda Kadohata back on the ship... please no more revolving door of characters for a while)
- DS9 trilogy to properly address the Ascendants arc post-The Soul Key and bridging the gap that leads up to the post-Destiny time frame
- Continuation of the VOY relaunch with Kirsten Beyer, and maybe even a couple of other authors just to mix things up and add variety
- Continuation of the Titan series, with maybe some authors who we haven't seen write for this particular crew yet (KRAD, DRGIII, S.D. Perry, Dayton Ward, etc.)
- Sporadic Aventine-focused novels, but maybe not a fully-fledged on-going series
- Another amazing David Mack trilogy (hey, sounds like we're already getting one of these!)
- More DS9 relaunch novels written by S.D. Perry (amazing work on Avatar, Rising Son and Unity)
- Mangels & Martin writing together again, or maybe even a Mangels solo effort (liked everything they've written together but was unimpressed with Martin's solo work on Seize the Fire).
- Consider expanding on the Trek universe and increase the number of Trek releases each year by offering exclusive eBook releases in addition to the standard, dead-tree format (this would probably finally push me to consider eBooks as viable format).

I agree with all the above. Add in a few "Lost Era" type books and I'd be very happy. :)

Cant they just declare the Abramverse a Parallel universe?

It would make much more sense.

They have. He was talking about Final Frontier, Best Destiny and The Final Reflection - saying that those books can't be reconciled with modern Trek, hence it would be difficult to incorporate their portryals of George Kirk, etc, into a new Kelvin-era series.

There's already one new exclusive eBook release coming up this year, Typhon Pact: The Struggle Within by yours truly.

Indeed. I'd like to see more of this. It would allow Pocket to publish more than 12 novels per year. And I presume that publishing strictly as eBooks keep the costs down?

Since it seems pretty obvious that the current series are going to continue for the time being it seems unnecessary to include them. Although I would like to see DS9 fill in at least some of the 5 year gap.
Some more stuff to expand the universe, like Articles of the Federation, and DTI. Perhaps a series like House or Medical Investigation that focuses on Starfleet Medical, perhaps set during one of Beverly's stints as it's leader. Or maybe a espionage series focused on Starfleet Intelligence.
Something between TOS and Ent. My first choice would be a Kelvin series, but I'd even be happy with a completely original story.
More Lost Era. I could easily see this continuing as a irregular series, just kind of popping up with one or two books or a trilogy every few years.
More SCE and IKS Gorkon that continue on with the Post-Destiny settings as seen in A Singular Destiny.

I want to see a Enterrpise anthology that takes place during the series I'd also like to see some Enterrpise standalone novels about T'Pol or Malcolm's time with Section 31.i want to see Andy Mangels writing a Enterprise novel.More Enterprise realaunch novels please. More Ds9 booksthat take place during the series or fill in the five year gap too Fix Ben Sisko's character and get his act together after Rough beasts of the empire Asap I definitely agree wanting to see A.C. Crispin's Zar trilogy of novels. and Diane Duane writing another trek novel would be terrffic.I wish Slings and Arrows would finally come out as a tradepaperback at long last and a few more Myriad Universe books would be nice.

It already does. The "12 per year" applies specifically to mass-market paperbacks; those can be, and usually have been, supplemented by multiple trade paperbacks in any given year.

But yes, resuming the eBook program would allow even more material.

And I presume that publishing strictly as eBooks keep the costs down?

As Greg said, not that much. The costs of physically printing and shipping books are a fairly small percentage of the total cost of making them. People tend to think of the cost of a thing in terms of material expenses, but that's overlooking labor. A lot of people devote a lot of time and work to writing, editing, approving, copyediting, proofreading, and typesetting a book, designing and creating its cover art and text, drawing up and processing the contract for it, writing its catalog entries, marketing and promoting it, etc.

The original poster's suggestions reflect some of what I would like to see. Can't really think of anything else at the moment. King Daniel mentioned Shatner's Trial Run...

Although I know perfectly well that we proably never will, I'd like to see update editions of the Encyclopedia and Chronology. I'd like to see Diane Duane's take on DS9. I'd like to see more in the period between ENT and TOS, as well as the period between TOS and TNG/DS9/VGR.
