Another Lit Wish List Thread

What other parts of the movie would you consider to be mistakes and how would you change them or was this the only one in the entire show?

Quite a bit of jargon was off, actually. For instance, after Kirk goads Spock into attacking him on the bridge, when Spock steps down Kirk refers to it as "resigning commission," which means quitting. Starfleet. Forever. He should've said "relinquished command" or "been relieved of duty." That's the other big one.

The repeated "You're captain, now" line when Robau and Pike left the ship also seemed a bit weird. Not to mention Pike advancing Kirk up to first officer (well, second officer) despite the fact that he wasn't part of the crew, and also doing it without telling anyone.

And when Kirk says of the Narada, "Either we're going down, or they are," it really should be the other way around, both in terms of sentence structure (saying the desired outcome first) and to fit with Pine's delivery of the line (which reaches the peak of grimness on "or they are," which is illogical).

Did you seriously just ask a bunch of Star Trek fans to nitpick a movie like you were calling a bluff?

So........

I'd love to see more TNG novels in the 2381-2382 time period. Slow it down why don't we.
Yeah, I'm with you here. I'm kinda disapointed to see them jumping so far ahead with each book. I like it better when they just took place weeks or a month or two later. I'm kind of wondering if perhaps the editors are trying to hurry up getting to 2387 so they can deal with the Prime Universe ramifications of the JJ Abrams movie.

They've already done the 5 year jump with DS9. I don't think it's likely but I wouldn't be surprised either if they jumped to 2387. They could always fill in the missing years with a mini-series or some such.

They've totally DESTROYED ds9 in the novels post-unity.
Way way worse than what the writers did in the final DS9 ep which was bad enough.

  • Sisko is a depressed insular twat on his own ship making his own xo wanna slash his wrists from despair.
  • Nog is gone, transferred off to some Starbase.
  • Kira became a Vedik (wtf????)
  • Ro is apparently a Captain and in command which could work in a new novel.
  • O'Brian is....just...gone....unused
  • Bashir is still there but...not.
  • Dax has her own ship (about the only thing they've done with a ds9 character that has worked out very well, Aventine could have its own book series if they started cautiously like the New Frontier did with smaller books.
  • Odo is still in the greak link, though since he's now basically running the dominion i guess he could either come back to the station or be brought in as a dominion leader in future novels
  • Shar is back on Andor
  • Vaughn is dead.

Its just a total mess, Post-Unity the massacred my favorate series

Quoted for truth i agree with you I haven't been happy with what has happened to the ds9 characters have been treated in the books in fact i don't like what they've done with the five year jump in the books at all. I'd like to see less TNG books there have been plenty of post destiny typhon pact books already have them take a breakand let the other series have short story anthologies or stand alone novels.. I want to see more TOS and Enterprise novels. It wouldn't hurt for the Tnd era books to take a break from the bok schedule so the fans of the other Startrek tv series get to have other authors have a turn to get their books published.I'm burned out on reading just tng only books the last few years I was really bored reading the Typhon pact booksthe stories weren't very interesting .

I can't remember for sure, but I thought that it wasn't established what happened to Vaughn after Bashir disconnected him from the life support system? And I'm going to make any final judgements on what's being done to DS9 until we actually get a book that is specifically labled as DS9. I'm starting to think that what we've gotten is just a set up for whatever is going to happen in the next true DS9 book. Baisically, that what we've gotten is the Iron Man 2, Captain America, and Thor to the next DS9 book's Avengers.
