Another board talks about Voyager, mainly dislikes.

Voyager had HUGE problems and could I think have been even better, and I agree with a lot of what Beltran said - not all, but a lot. Having said that, it is still my fav Trek show. I love them all from Tos to Voy, and Ent had some great episodes. I was also blown away by Abraham's movie, but Voyager just has 'something extra' for me. Janeway/Chakotay was a highlight and because of them I think the show had depth and warmth and I love to read the fanfic that's still being written about them, but I don't think that's wholly it. It's the sense of family I got from all of the cast/characters I think. Yes, there was so much more 'depth' to these complex characters that could have been covered on the show, but wasn't, but never mind - that's what fanfic's for :)

A minority of DS9 fans who bag on VOY sometimes do so by comparing their respective 30th anniversary episodes, "Trials and Tribble-ulations" and "Flashback", which seems rather unfair and biased, since "Trials and Tribble-ulations" is one of the better DS9 episodes anyway while VOY's "Flashback" was merely inoffensively average and had one or so ignorable plotholes. VOY had episodes that matched "Trails and Tribble-ulations" in tone and quality, like "The Bride of Chaotica". Gee, some people.

Star Trek: TOS set the standard and at its best holds up very well today, smoothly translating into a very successful blockbuster movie recently, but then again you had Gene Roddenbbery fiercely pissing on the franchise three decades before B&B were accused of doing, with such offensive and stupid dross like "The Omega Glory". No Trek series is unfallable.

There's a difference between discerning between good and bad ST episodes, and being a nerd raging bigot.

^ :guffaw: I lol'd.

And by the way even though I am taking shots at Voyager I have no problem that people are huge fans and love the show. We are all different and I have no problems with that.

I just wish I could come into a thread like this (or the "voyager continuity thread") without being called a sexist or being told "well obviously they made new shuttlecrafts in their food replicators, idiot!"

Did I miss something? Did someone call you sexist? Or are you just labeling yourself for us?

I really hate it when someone says "the writers did it that way" as an explanation, but, truth is, the order of the episodes was often shuffled as filming went on. Having the ship "fixed" at the beginning of each episode made it easier to change the order, when needed. If that is an apology, so be it. To me, it just makes sense.

Have you noticed how only assholes and idiots say "you're just afraid of strong confident women like me" without irony because strong women don't need to flaunt the fact and confident don't need to belittle others at the first sign of obstacle.

But he sexism card is hardly drawn around any more except by noobs.

I don't really care much about the haters except for when they get really intense.
I can think of things to bash about TOS (Spock's Brain, Space Hippies, Shatner's acting, etc.) TNG (Ferengis, preachy captain, lifeless characters), DS9 (more Ferengis, Odo was an uptight tool. Dominion war amped up and Worf (another uptight tool) brought on to boost ratings) and Enterprise (Star Trek burn-out for the writers. Nothing interesting happening.).
It's actually pretty plain to me that the other shows are the ones with a huge pile of things wrong with each of them.
None of the shows is perfect....but by my standards, Voyager holds up best so far.

Apologists? Cripes, man, it's been over 15 years. It's time to let go of the anger. We're just fans. It's just pretend.

I didn't know that word was an insult. Aren't we all Trek apologists?

...and yet another QFT.
