Another board talks about Voyager, mainly dislikes.

This site called Straight Dope.com forums has a thread talking about Voyager. I thought it was an interesting read.

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=611227

Some of the highlights:

Robert Beltran disliked the show but did it for a paycheck. Other posters claim that the cast did not gell together as a group and the last two years were more or less "phoned in".

Voyager kept losing loads of shuttlecraft, which were magically replaced.

Robert Picardo was awesome, although hamstrung with the weak scripts.

The Warp 10 episode where Paris and Janeway become space salamanders, yes, that episode was fuc*ing dumb.

Star Trek writers write more crap than original stuff.

The forehead of the week.

The consensus was that Voyager should of have been a more grittier, harder show, because of the situation they were in.

Maquis and Federation people becoming one crew almost instantly without the tension that should of happened which would of made the story more interesting.

Terry Farrell gets digged on, even though she was not on Voyager.

For the record, I am a Trekkie (or Trekker, whatever) and actually Voyager is my second favorite show of the five, behind the wonderful DS9. But I am the type who will watch anything with a Trek label attached.

I thought it was an interesting thread and something I found out of the blue.

Another poster on the same board professing love for the sexy Robert Picardo........

^ Many of those criticisms are more or less valid, but none of them were deal-breakers for me. I still like Voyager very, very much, despite its shortcomings.

A friend of mine once described Voyager as the comfort food of Trek shows. Well put, sir, I said.

Those are some really insightful, original opinions that I've never heard before. They're so clever.

The show is long over.
When are folks just going to let it go already and stop acting like it's the only show on TV to suffer from script & behind the scenes issues.

Voyager lasted 7 years.
That's a big deal considering shows like V, No Ordinary Family & Pushing Daisies had higher ratings, on bigger networks and still got cancelled after only 1 or 2 seasons.
Voyager was was & is still better that it trumps much of what major network TV is putting out today.

Quoted for truth.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that VOY could just build shuttles?

Exactly. They built the Delta Flyer, right? :) Replicators can create whatever parts they need. It's just the energy to run them that is required, as long as Voyager doesn't run out of deuterium. ;)

They built two Delta Fliers.

Considering the Space Neelix's ship was taking up in Cargobay One, they could have had a third and maybe a fourth on standby,

When the design was eventually mass produced by Starfleet, were they then called "Alpha Fliers" or was the line simply called Delta Class?

I may go with this in the future, nice one.

Voyager is very enjoyable to me; I really dig it. But I am getting tired of defending it, there are legitimate complaints about the show.

I just like it; even the stuff that is 'phoned in' has some appeal to me. Every once in a while the show did hit something close to it's potential; nevertheless I am pleased with the series as a whole.

I think of it more as a fishbone stuck in my throat if I was going to draw on any one food analogy.

You think everything is hunky-dorey and then KABLAM!

I don't mind criticisms of Voyager. It had its flaws. What irritates me is the critic who obviously has not watched much (or any) of the series and is just repeating what others have said.

There are enough lousy episodes... and kind of "lame" seasons, that one could sample just a little, come to a negative conclusion, and not look back. For those who have done this, I feel badly for them. There are some truly great episodes in Voyager, and plenty of decent ones worth seeing.

Voyager was a good show, in fact im preparing for a full rewatch at the moment, I kind of miss the crew tbh it'll be nice to see them all again after so many years, the good thing about going through trek series is that its like meeting old friends.

It had its flaws, and no doubt ill notice them again as i go through the series, but all in all i thought it was a quality show, with a lot of value, I think the main dissapointment is that it could have been more than it was and didnt explore its possibilities to the fullest.

Agreed completely. VOYAGER is far from my favorite Star Trek series, and many of the complaints leveled at it are valid (same goes for ENTERPRISE), but I would still rather watch both of those than most of the shit that passes for TV now.
