Animaniacs Reboot in the Works

There's also a touch of Buster Keaton, but you see a lot more of that in Bugs Bunny than Animaniacs.

It's hard to ignore that Wakko's voice isn't a generic British accent, it's specifically imitating one of the Beatles accents. I forget which, I think Ringo but could be wrong. And the style of just approaching and annoying the straight man foils of the comedy world.
According to this article Wakko's voice is specifically based on Ringo.

EDIT: found this, I guess it was John instead

I had always assumed it was Ringo — not real-life Ringo so much as Ringo in Yellow Submarine.

Harnell mentioned "potty emergency"... One of my favorite lines from that series involves Wakko trying to find a place to "relieve" himself after drinking a soda from a cup the size of a garbage can. At point point he dashes into a gas station restroom. He switches on the light and we see a dark colored wall. After a pause, the dark hue breaks apart to reveal a much lighter colored wall underneath. The dark color is actually a "mass" of cockroaches packed carapace to carapace! The pattern 'breaks" and the bugs scatter from the light, out of frame! Wakko bolts from the facility, turns to the audience and exclaims, "I can't go in there! It's DISGUSTING!!!" It's just the way Harnell says it with Ringo's nasal twang raised an octave that makes me giggle like a loon to this day!

That is one of my favorite of their cartoons, that and the Dollar Store one.

An update from raw Rob Paulsen. The original release date of fall 2020 is in flux due to the pandemic. Also, he said that most of the original cast was back and that there was new supporting characters.

We know Pinky and the Brain will be back, but I wonder what this means for Buttons and Mindy, Rita and Runt, Slappy Squirrel and the Goodfeathers?

I could do without most of those. The Warners and P&tB were the only segments that really worked for me. Buttons & Mindy could be fun in the main part of the cartoon, but the openings and closings were boring because they were always the same lines in a different setting, too formulaic. Too many of Animaniacs' segments were just the same rigid formula and lazily rehashed catchphrases week after week, a letdown for a show whose theme song included the line "We have no script."

Sure, but there's also a ton of Marx Brothers influence, which was made most explicit in "King Yakko," a direct homage to Duck Soup.

To me, there's a Monty Python influence in the off-the-wall sense of humor, and I guess you could draw a line from Buster Keaton through the Marx Brothers to the Goons to the Beatles to Python and from there on to Animaniacs pretty easily.

Now I wonder if Jem Roberts' forthcoming Fab Fools, a book on the comedic roots and influence of the Beatles, will address Animaniacs, especially apropos given Wakko's kid Ringo accent. Maybe I'll ask on Twitter. Really looking forward to the book.

It looks like they're stick to pretty much the exact designs from the original series, which is great. I had expected them to redesign them at least a little bit.

Ah yes, Slappy Squirrel, my father's favorite (I use to watch this show after coming home from school, and he would be there sometimes....Slappy caught his attention with a single line "Ah but lets not be anal, lets grab some nuts" His head popped up from the computer and went, "wait, what did she say?" This was followed up much later with Skippy's response to the question "Where's the balcony, kid?" "Upstairs, DUH".

I am pretty sure I also caught him into "The Tick", "South Park" and "Futurama".

Wait! Is the clerk in that skit supposed to be Kato Kaelin?! Man, the only thing better than a timeless reference is a supremely dated '90s reference! :D

Well, they once straight up did Abbott & Costello:

What's brilliant is that, as obvious as the joke is, it only gets funnier the longer it goes on.

I remember reading something years ago that noted that there are no female cartoon animals that aren't female counterparts to existing male cartoon animals, like Minnie Mouse & Daisy Duck. I always wanted to say to them, "Let me introduce you to the crankiest of creatures in the whole wide world...."

"That deer was just an actress. Veena Walleen. We were pals. She used to date George Jetson."

Wow, hearing those voices again brought on some major nostalgia for me.
