AndyP's Trek building thread

Hey Guys, more progress on the transporter room.

As I mentioned previously I did end up liking the look of the weapons locker pushed back some. I moved it back 5 feet, so it is now it's own little area in the transporter room. For now I just put in more wall slats for filler. I might down the line modify this so that it has some sort of isolinear chips that characters can play with when there is something wrong with the transporter, should the need arise, but for the time being this is fine.

I also added the foam paneling around the transporter pad, I based it off of pyramid panels used in Voyager (easier to model  ) Fixed a few other things around the transporter where there were some faces sharing the same space as the faces emitting light for the light dividers.

Then today I made a standing transporter console. The goal with this piece was to create something that blended the design elements seen on the TNG transporter console as well as other parts from the other sets I have built (helm console, the tactical console, warp core diagnostic console) I based the stand for the console off of an ENT-E Engineering console. I still need to create the graphic for the sequence initiators. Part of me wants to use these on the bridge for the tactical and engineering standing consoles.

Not the biggest fan of that Enterprise-E inspired stand, I always felt it looked wrong with the rest of that design aesthetic, like it was a leftover from the TNG style.
However I LOVE what you did with the console itself, a very cool shape that fits in great with the rest of the ship. :)

Can I just say, designing the graphics for the transporter wall was a very challenging thing to do. It's like there is a certain flow to how it was created that is very difficult to imitate if you are trying to do something similar. With this graphic I attempted to create a slimmed down version of what we saw in Voyager and TNG, while trying to differentiate it from @Rekkert 's recent graphic for the Yeager Transporter room, however there are similarities. I've spent the past week just staring at the screen trying to think of how to get it right. It looks correct? But also looks very different from everything else I've needed to do so far. I might tweak the design a bit, or I might just leave it and move on.

Looking nice, as for the graphice, guess you should try and find a workflow to follow, like energy on then equipment on, scan human/pissy Klingon, release energy, send them to where they want to be, close off energy etc etc etc, kinda like the program of a washing machine, if you sort of can show that in the graphics then you should be fine. :mallory:

@Santaman I tried to follow the graphics used in the voyager transporter room.

Way back in the day there were some 360° panorama views of some of the sets of Voyager that were not part of the captains chair CD. They are now hosted on trekcore, but I do not believe QuickTime supports viewing them anymore. And I cannot remember how I converted it to a single image a year ago

That's a great find. Somehow I was able to export the .mov file to a still image. I'll have to take a look when I'm at my computer next week.

^^ That's really nice.

As for Quicktime, yeah, it is not working anymore.. progress be damned! hmm.. I have a few XP machines and some Win7 machines, I'll drag one out of storage and see if they still can play those files..

As mentioned in the other thread:
So I spent most of this morning trying to get a VM to open with QuickTime only to discover that QuickTime requires QuickTime pro in order to export the video to an image.... So as a just for kicks attempt, I tried opening the QuickTime files in Blender's image viewer, and it actually opened! I have exported each of the videos as a still panorama image. And uploaded them to this album:

When I created the graphics for the transporter wall I referenced what I saw there.

I did quite a bit of project jumping today.

I went back to the ready room, I've decided to leave the room shape as is, but I found a furniture placement that I like better. Since I really want some sort of view screen in there for video calls, I am just going to plop in the viewscreen created for the conference room.

I also added a ship that is on display.as a throwback, and a nod to one of my first ever 3d projects I have decided to bring back the U.S.S. Envoy mesh that I made long long ago for Star Trek Bridge Commander. It's an extremely low poly mesh, so it will not add too much to render times.

I still need to fix the wall sconces, with the measurements that were posted here a few weeks back.

Today I updated the sconce lights per @Lt. Washburn 's measurements. I also added some décor around the captain's desk, some padds, a viewing monitor (but I will likely replace with something else), behind the desk I put some books, they look uniform right now because I used a single texture to add the details to the cover. Not seen in these renders, I toned down the bump map that was used on the starship model in the room to make it look smoother.

@Santaman @Lt. Washburn Thanks!

Added some additional décor to the room since last posting, modeled a coffee carafe, mugs, some geometric shapes in a bowl. Additionally I modeled the desktop viewer from Voyager. With going off of only basic measurements from auction listings, I am not sure how screen accurate it is, I think it's pretty close. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am not sure what else to add to this room, so I will likely project jump back to the transporter room.
