Why are we discussing this such creeping thread?

Because it's actually a good topic to discuss? :) Although it would probably make more sense in the "Science & Technology" forum ...

How gross!!

^^

ROTFLMAO :)

Just out of curiosity, if you think it's gross, why are you in this thread? Discussing something doesn't mean we want it to happen - it only means we can see how it could happen. Given the progress of technology, this is something that, frankly, should be discussed, because it's something that will become a topic for discussion - and possibly control - in the not-too-distant future. Why are you here?

You...need...help.

However, I shouldn't be so certain. It's hard to say how I'd react to the brand-spanking new Shep 2000 from the uber-popular Stargate line of Android Sex Slaves. :rommie: It's the sort of thing you can't really know till it happens.

It's funny, but I don't recall GQ ever publishing an article that said "Buy Porn, It's Better than Women!"
Only cuz guys think that reading an article like that makes them look like losers who can't get women. :rommie: GQ and magazines of that ilk make their living promoting readers' self-image...

When people use toys to help them get off, that's considered masturbation, so why would doing it with a robot be any different? A robot isn't a living thing, it's just a toy.

Yeah. It all comes down to whether or not the Shep 2000 makes the user feel like a loser. Speaking from the female perspective, inasmuch as any female who isn't completely atrocious looking can easily line up real-live guys, the Shep 2000 should not harm anyone's self-esteem.

This definitely belongs in the Science and Technology board.

The Science Fiction & Fantasy board is mainly used for talking about shows, movies and books.

Allow me to explain why I'm here, because of "Android sex slaves", it's too disturbing to treating them as your sex slave to please you the way you want them to! Oh, good god, it's so wrong for me to thinking of them as my sex slaves at all! I would treat them as my true friends, no matter how bad they've been through, I would have been there so passionately!

People needs to get their life straight, I mean it seriously! Treat them as this sex slave is wrong.

^^

On that, we're agreed - they couldn't be slaves, since they wouldn't be people. At best - and even this is pushing it - they might be pets. They would be Orgasmatrons, nothing more than sophisticated masturbation devices for those who can afford The Very Best (or, as has been said, prostitution devices for those who don't want to catch The Very Worst ;)). Being a slave implies being deprived of free will, but these are machines we're talking about, nothing more - they don't have free will, anyway, any more than a Dyson vacuum. However, given how much they would likely cost, it's probable that their owners would treat them pretty well, the same way a rich guy babies his favorite Ferrari. I'll leave the questions of morality up to others - there's nothing immoral, IMHO, about playing with your toys, or else a LOT of women and men are going to have to confess about their 'special drawer' in the nightstand.

As an academic exercise, it's a great concept, and something that someone should flesh out - so to speak - as a novel (and probably already has); SF is about the personal and social ramifications of science and technology, and this topic is nothing if not a hot bed of potential ramifications. :bolian:

Actually this was covered in the Steven Speilberg movie AI and Jude Law was a male sexbot and Haley Joel Osment was the android that wanted to be human.
I don't see anything wrong with this, people use real dolls and vibrators now, how would this be much different? Maybe it would help cut down on people being raped?

^A.I. Artificial Intelligence? EDIT:timelord beat me to it....
I brought up the caretaker robots b/c I was watching my dvd of AI the other day & I thought it was sad how that nanny robot was running for her life from the mecha-hunters but the minute she sees David her nanny programming starts kicking in... "I have plenty of references."

...why would a nanny-bot need references anyway?

Yes and no to A.I. - it's a take on artificially-intelligent androids and non-sentient robots that have infiltrated every aspect of life, at every tier - it's a lot broader than just addressing the issues of non-sentient artificial sex surrogates, personal and professional. The ubiquity of the 'droids made them less important, whereas a small number, in both private hands and as prostitutes (the Gigolo models struck me more like 'amusement rides' rather than actual surrogates) is a good starting place to explore not the robots, but the people to whom they are important. At its essence, A.I. was a creepy take on Pinocchio, but if your robots remain robots, with no self-awareness, then the story becomes the humans who own, use, or revile them. While there was some of the latter in the people who destroyed robots for entertainment, I'd say that A.I. hasn't taken the human concept up at all. And that's what the poll is really all about: would you avail yourself of robot sex partners if you could, and if not, why not?

All well said..and the poll results are interesting, considering th scifi bias of the responders. Can you imagne the results in the general population? I dare say it would be overwhelming in favor of Android sex partners...
