Why are we discussing this such creeping thread?
Because it's actually a good topic to discuss?Although it would probably make more sense in the "Science & Technology" forum ...
How gross!!

Only cuz guys think that reading an article like that makes them look like losers who can't get women. It's funny, but I don't recall GQ ever publishing an article that said "Buy Porn, It's Better than Women!"
When people use toys to help them get off, that's considered masturbation, so why would doing it with a robot be any different? A robot isn't a living thing, it's just a toy.
^^
ROTFLMAO
Just out of curiosity, if you think it's gross, why are you in this thread? Discussing something doesn't mean we want it to happen - it only means we can see how it could happen. Given the progress of technology, this is something that, frankly, should be discussed, because it's something that will become a topic for discussion - and possibly control - in the not-too-distant future. Why are you here?
^ i think this could make a good premise (or at least major plot line) for an HBO/Showtime series.

Andriod sex slaves that evolved and rebelled would make for quite a different take on Galactica.![]()

On that, we're agreed - they couldn't be slaves, since they wouldn't be people. At best - and even this is pushing it - they might be pets. They would be Orgasmatrons, nothing more than sophisticated masturbation devices for those who can afford The Very Best (or, as has been said, prostitution devices for those who don't want to catch The Very Worst). Being a slave implies being deprived of free will, but these are machines we're talking about, nothing more - they don't have free will, anyway, any more than a Dyson vacuum. However, given how much they would likely cost, it's probable that their owners would treat them pretty well, the same way a rich guy babies his favorite Ferrari. I'll leave the questions of morality up to others - there's nothing immoral, IMHO, about playing with your toys, or else a LOT of women and men are going to have to confess about their 'special drawer' in the nightstand.
As an academic exercise, it's a great concept, and something that someone should flesh out - so to speak - as a novel (and probably already has); SF is about the personal and social ramifications of science and technology, and this topic is nothing if not a hot bed of potential ramifications.![]()
Yes and no to A.I. - it's a take on artificially-intelligent androids and non-sentient robots that have infiltrated every aspect of life, at every tier - it's a lot broader than just addressing the issues of non-sentient artificial sex surrogates, personal and professional. The ubiquity of the 'droids made them less important, whereas a small number, in both private hands and as prostitutes (the Gigolo models struck me more like 'amusement rides' rather than actual surrogates) is a good starting place to explore not the robots, but the people to whom they are important. At its essence, A.I. was a creepy take on Pinocchio, but if your robots remain robots, with no self-awareness, then the story becomes the humans who own, use, or revile them. While there was some of the latter in the people who destroyed robots for entertainment, I'd say that A.I. hasn't taken the human concept up at all. And that's what the poll is really all about: would you avail yourself of robot sex partners if you could, and if not, why not?
