It hadn't even occured to me that this was Walter Koenig's son we were talking about until I'd seen that press conference on TV. Not that it makes the story any more or less sad. Damnation....
He was an integral part of my favorite Podcast, Never Not Funny, which is hosted by his brother-in-law, comedian Jimmy Pardo. They nicknamed him "The AK-47." He was funny and had very insightful thoughts on the world. He shared many great stories about playing Boner and growing up as Walter's son.
The awful part to me is how the media grabs quotes from Kirk Cameron or Tracey Gold, who haven't known him in 20 years. The silver lining in all of this is that Walter's words kick started a national discussion about suicide and depression.
This is almost the same feeling I have as when Dana Plato ODed, seeing all these sitcom stars (who were either also young or playing young) I grew up with dying.
