Spoilers Andor - Season 2

Also Major Partagaz's suicide felt surprisingly sad and you wonder if he went through with it because he almost got won over by the recorded speech from that now years dead Rebel revolutionary (and was not just because of loss of face Imperial Japanese style). He was very likely an "old dog" of the military or police from the late Republic era (so perhaps not fully convinced by Palpatine or his New Order, and likely learned and far sighted enough to realise it was all going to inevitably collapse).
If Partagaz hadn't killed himself, he was going to face a much harsher future than Dedra's, execution at least, for running a department with traitors, suspected or actual, and leaks that allowed the Rebels to learn about the Death Star before it was too late for them. I suspect that he indulged in his eleventh hour assessment of the hopelessness of the Imperial cause because he knew that, for him, it was over. The fact that there were stormtroopers waiting for him pretty much confirms this, I think.

(This is a spoiler thread, so I'm not spoiler-tagging my response.)

I was wondering the other day, if Palpatine had openly leaked to the Alliance that he had arrested Leida and was holding her on the Death Star (either of them), would Mon have ordered the Alliance to pause their attacks until an attempted rescue? Or would she go forward with the attack on the Death Star knowing that the galaxy's fate and the potential planets blown up during such a pause outweighs the fate of one person, even that of her daughter?

The way Partagaz mentioned the Emperor's actual name to Krennic - to me, anyways - hints that he was not a true believer. He's old enough to remember when Palpatine was just another Senator from your average world in the Republic and how so many Senators before the Imperial Era were just manipulative, greedy opportunists who'd vote for any bill if it greased their financial wheels.

"Save the sermon for Palpatine" just sounds like it's coming from a man who didn't entirely like the system in which he worked but he was damn good at his job and very secure. At least until the ISB started falling apart in those final years.

There's contradictoins on how much the Force powers of the Emperor are known. The official stance is that no one knows about the Sith, much less that Palpatine is one. However, we have in the canon comics Qi'ra basically going around telling everyone that Palpatine is a Sith. To most of the galaxy this doesn't mean anything. However, assuming the ISB at least has SOME inkling of what Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn do (not even getting into their previous leader Maul), someone as educated as Partagaz should be able to put the pieces together. As recently as 9 BBY lightsaber wielding Inquisitors were going around openly on Tatooine threatening people in Kenobi (remember Reva literally publicly held a lightsaber to Owen's throat).

Partagaz knows that if even the Inquisitors are kneeling to the Emperor, there's probably more to the guy (otherwise Vader and the Inquisitors would just kill Palpatine and take over themselves, not unlike how the Separatist Council was wiped out).

That also fits with Paradgast’s explanation to Dedra that it didn’t matter that they killed everyone in Kreeger’s group and had no one to question, since they were mostly doing counterinsurgency theater to mollify Palpatine after Aldani, and actually doing effective work could wait until he wasn’t breathing down their necks.

Conman Uncle Harlo did more to transition Syril into a new decent job than the Jedi Order ever did for Ahsoka or Osha from the Acolyte.

Just been having a google for the filming locations. Definitely a fan of the use of real life locations and how they integrate them with cgi. Gives it all a grounded look.
I dare say it's better than stagecraft tech, which is still very clever bit of filming.
But how they blended real place in Valencia, for Coruscant is fantastic.
Also I never knew in season one the planet Niamos is English seaside town of Cleveleys, only a few hours drive from where I live. Lol.
If you want dismal dystopian seaside resort then the UK the best place for it.
Disney is going all in for Emmy considerations. Granted, For Your Consideration doesn't mean much and some of the categories might be a little saturated with options but I'm thrilled they're pushing the show for the award season.

Major categories:
  • Outstanding Drama Series
  • Directing for a Drama Series: Janus Metz for episode 208, “Who Are You?”

I'm not sure if I knew the Emmys did a Character Voice-Over Performance award but I'm guessing it's a Creative Emmy like the Guest Actor categories. Still, it's good to see the love for the whole cast extends to Alan Tudyk.

Of course, ultimately none of this means anything and it's not like winning would help garner more seasons, but I would love to see this show get some serious recognition, especially after the first season was largely shut out (outside of drama, writing, and directing nominations only).
If they win lots then it MIGHT teach Disney not to churn out slop and instead hold other series to the same high standard as Andor......hopefully.

On top of that it might encourage Disney to write a big fat check to Gilroy to stay on and do a Kleya series..

This is very true! :)
Rumor is they wanted to use Margate near me but didn't think the audience would believe that a place even under the empire could be that dismal plus didn't think showing such a traumatic place would be suitable even on Andor.
