And the Next Cancelled Show is...

The networks could get a lot of good will if, every year, they'd put a poll on their website and allow the audience to "uncancel " a single series by a vote.

Roseanne has been uncanceled and rebranded. Here are the details:

ABC has given a series order to “The Conners,” a spinoff starring original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. Not part of the new series will be Roseanne Barr, who played the matriarch on the long-running and recently revived — and more recently canceled — multi-camera comedy. Barr will, according to ABC, have no financial or creative involvement in the spinoff.

.
.
Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen, and Tony Hernandez will serve as executive producers on the spinoff, which hails from Werner Entertainment.

.
.
“The Conners” is currently a working title for the spinoff, which has been given a 10-episode order. It is not known how Barr’s character will be written off the show.

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement.

The new order is for three episodes fewer than that given to the anticipated new season of “Roseanne.” In order to hit a fall premiere date, writers and producers will need to work on an expedited schedule. News of the show’s cancellation last month came on the same day that the writers room for the new season of “Roseanne” was scheduled to open. Though the new series will be able to take advantage of having crew in place, production will still be far behind that of other shows anticipated to premiere this fall.

In a joint statement released by ABC, cast members Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson, and Fishman said: “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

Curious how they're going to write her out of the show. A mishap during her surgery, perhaps? It's a big hole to fill, logistically.

Any chance Roseanne will still come back in the final episode only to have a piano dropped on her?

Forgive me if this was posted, but a search didn't dig it up. I'm not surprised that it wasn't mentioned, it was kind of stealth canceled: "People of Earth" was canceled after being renewed.

TBS has opted not give a third-season renewal to its summer series People of Earth, the network’s supernatural-tinged comedy. Creator David Jenkins tipped the news last night on Twitter, and the move comes after the network had initially renewed it in the fall along with fellow summer series Wrecked and The Guest Book.

It's a shame, I really enjoyed it. The cast was great and made up of a wide mix of people I enjoy including Wyatt Cenac (from The Daily Show), Ana Gasteyer (from Saturday Night Live), Nasim Perdad (most recently from New Girl), Oscar Nunez and Paul Lieberstein (from The Office), among others.

I think my favorite part was just how human the aliens were. Jeff, the put-upon-grey, especially captured this as the guy who couldn't catch a break, especially when Eric (who was wonderfully voiced by Peter Serafinowicz) came on-board in season 2.

about Roseanne> Good riddance. I watched it as a kid and there was always something wrong with her. How she spoke to her kids and partner for cheap laughs. And frankly as a voice and ear of America, encouraging Americans to steal at the registers isn't a good idea. "My starting rate is bacon." You try to do that and prices just keep going up for the rest of us. You could always stand in line for the two cashiers on duty and not check out your own groceries. That's the legal way to get rid of those things if you hate them so much, Rosie.

Yup, it was brought up a few pages ago. I'm still pissed it was canceled. :scream:
In that case, the search on this forum is crap! I miss the previous iteration of this forum's search, that was damned good. Ah, well.

Not for nothing, but if I were a show creator/runner, and had any negotiating rights in today's day and age, I would opt for a clause that allowed me to continue the concept in another medium. I think PoE would make for a good comic book, for instance.
