Uncle Buck (ABC)
Well, that doesn't surprise me.Uncle Buck (ABC)
Royal Pains is officially over. The finale was obvious and safe, but it still had a few touching moments.
You're much more forgiving than I am. I could only give it 5 minutes before I turned it off and started watching the movie Uncle Buck.I knew the show was in production, but I didn't know it had already started airing until I saw the same news article today saying the show had been cancelled. So I went over to Hulu to see if they had any free episodes up, and they do have them if anyone is interested in watching it.
My takeaway is that it's fairly decent overall. The writing is often kludgy, but there are some solid one liners. The acting is very hit and miss.
My favorite character so far (I've watched the pilot and am into the second episode) is James Lesure's "Will Russell." His timing and delivery seems much more natural compared to the rest of the cast.
The problem is that Mike Epps, who plays Buck, can be okay one minute, and just cringe inducing the next, and not in the fun way, but the "this is terribly scripted and poorly timed" way. This is a problem because I need to identify with Buck the most, since he is the main character and the everyman whom we're supposed to connect with. While he has some fun lines every so often, none of it feels natural. One of John Candy's greatest gifts as Buck was that you felt like this was Buck. Everything he said and did was an organic outgrowing of how Buck Russell lived his life and how he saw the world. With Epps, it just feels rehearsed. It shouldn't feel that way.
Overall, the show isn't growing on me, and I can kind of see why it was cancelled. I will watch it to completion and hope it gets better, though I guess it doesn't matter now. This is the second show in which I had high hopes based on some of the casting, and it just fell apart. The other one was "Partners," the show starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence as lawyers. It was just horrible executed, and contained many of the same sins which I find in this show.
You're more forgiving than me. I could only give the movie 5 minutes before I turned it off to watch paint dry. No way I was going to checkout the tv series. You're much more forgiving than I am. I could only give it 5 minutes before I turned it off and started watching the movie Uncle Buck.

Hunters is dead.
Thomas Gibson’s suspension from Criminal Minds has been made permanent. The producers of the long-running CBS crime drama have moved to terminate Gibson’s contract following a physical altercation on the set of the show, produced by ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, with ABC Studios running lead.
“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds,” the two studios said in a joint statement. “Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”
Gibson had been suspended for 1-2 episodes (2 weeks) following the incident, which allegedly involved him kicking co-executive producer Virgil Williams. It happened two weeks ago but only came to light about 36 hours ago. There also had been a previous on-set incident in 2010 when Gibson had to undergo anger management counseling after hitting assistant director Ian Woolf. The decision to dismiss Gibson was made after a brief internal review, with the actor’s prior history, which also included a DUI arrest, taken into consideration.
