There is no compelling need to have Nurse Chapel in the new film. Regardless of whatever definition she may have received from the writers of prose Trek fiction, onscreen she was a tiresomely unidimensional character designed to allow Roddenberry's doxy to collect a salary from the studio (her later proven ability as an actress notwithstanding).

Nurse Chapel is so inessential to the proceedings that her inclusion would be an Easter egg for aging fans at best, and a forgettable triviality at worst.
