Courtney Love Scarlett Johansson Elizabeth Harnois Lauralee Bell Jewel Staite Amanda Tapping Sarah Michelle Gellar Leah Pinsent Sarah Polley Jennifer Jason Leigh Do I have some winners here? Let me know and also come up with choices of your own!
I think we've finally found the perfect role for Ben Affleck! I hereby issue a challenge for any photoshoppers out there with really warped minds...
Best of the options you posted. But what I really want to see: Number One played by Lake Bell Yeoman Colt played by Michelle Trachtenberg
While I love me some Scarlett Johansson, I wouldn't want to see her wasted in a throwaway role like Nurse Chapel. She'd be ideal for Kirk's love interest, though (and I'm sure he'll have one).
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that Christine Chapel will never be seen in Star Trek again. Unless J.J. Abrams is knocking off some chick behind his wife's back and needs to get her a part in the movie...
Ha Ha, Majel Barrett reference. Chapel was a pretty pointless character, wasn't she? At least in The Cage Gene gave her a bigger part.
Hey, all I'm looking for is a cameo, anyway; that's why I mentioned Courtney Love first. It might be a lark for her, or anybody else if they're cast.
I don't know, it might work. If Bones is in it, he would probably need a staff for all the sickbay scenes. Why not Christine?
If the movie were set during the original 5-year-mission, on the Enterprise, with all the original characters there, sure. But every indicator I've seen tells me that this movie will pre-date WNMHGB by a fair margin (though it will span a number of years and will approach WNMHGB near the end). And any Trek fan who's bothered to memorize Kirk's safe combination will also know that Christine was a civilian, hanging out with Roger Korby at this point. (smirk)
Oh yeah. I forgot about that. Is that bit of continuity really set in stone, or do the writers have some wiggle room here? I don't remember the exact lines from What are Little Girls Made Of.
I think Christine Chapels backstory can be filed under "does-not-matter". Continuity wise, I think they will probably keep all the important stuff intact - but will be less concerned of the more obscure elements of Trek minutia. Broadly speaking I dont think anything will radically clash with continuity (kirk will probably still come from Iowa for example), but some of the stuff is going to change - especially the design elements i.e. the uniforms, the interior of the ship etc. It will almost certainly conflict with some of the books. A couple of things will jar with some of us though. We'll probably find out that George Kirk was an Admiral in Starfleet or something. Actually, I could buy that. As long as it fitted in with the story. You have to wonder why JT got into Starfleet in the first place (which will probably be one of the stories they will tell)...
