An Alien Captain The Next Step?

I thought they should have already done that with Enterprise. Have Shran and his Andorian crew be the stars, not Archer or Archer's crew. Would have made Enterprise be an amazing show in my view.

Yes absolutely they should have an alien Captain, but don't stop there. Let's have a crew consisting entirely of aliens. Humans have been played out. Let humans be the secondary cast and/or "aliens of the week" for a change. Preferably as enemies. Like in a Dominion-based show.

I vote for a Founder and/or Vorta and/or Jem'Hadar Captain. And not one who is dumbed-down to be pro-human.

Vulcan definetly. it would be good to see the way a human crew would react in the long run, episodes showing vulcans ( temporarily ) in command always prove difficult for the Vulcan trying to communicate with humans. i would like to see it after a long time!

Personally, I'd rather see a black or Asian female captain myself.

I think within the context of the Star Trek Universe, a series with a non-Human captain is probably overdue. But as a television series aimed at a mass audience, I think the captain has to be someone that most viewers can easily identify with or relate to--and that means Human. Even a Human-looking captain--like a Kryptonian or a Betazoid--would do.

It would take guts for TPTB to have a truly alien captain, and I just don't think they're that brave yet.

But one way they can easily have an alien captain is to feature a series with a Human lead--like a young lieutenant or ensign--and shift the primary focus of the series more towards him/her than "dat funny-looking feller" in the center seat...

Just so long as it's not a Ferengi!

A Vulcan is the logical choice (pardon the pun), but a Vorta hottie wouldn't be intolerable......

I want a half-Ferengi, half-Talaxian gynoid. :)

With a forked tongue. And bad breath. With lasers somewhere...

Erm. Anyway, it appears the next step is... Captain Kirk! I'm betting Star Trek is going to go into that regressive loop from now on... every few years, a new James T. Kirk. Maybe eventually a black Kirk, and then a female Kirk, but don't count on an alien Kirk.

^
Captain Kirk is also a quintessentially American hero... played by a Canadian. For that matter, the show's other Canadian wound up playing a Scotsman. In the 1960s, American audiences just weren't ready for Canadian characters on television...

;)

Asian character, check. Black character, check. Russian character, check. British character, check. Alien character, check. Canadian character? Fcuk no!

Tamarian, I think it'd be fun for the crew to try to figure out his orders.

Orion Slave Girl, I think most straight guys would like that since the crew would need to be predominantly female.

A Q, only problem is there'd be no problem they couldn't handle.

Seven of Nine, or any other former Borg could be good.

A Pakled. His greeting hail would be: "We look for things. Things that make us go."

A Shi'ar, not a Trek Species but I like 'em.

I'd really like to see a Hispanic Captain as the lead, male or female, with an Arabic XO.

For the Orion slave girl suggestion ... why not place a predominantly homosexual male crew with heterosexual females ?

An alien for a captain as the next step would be an ok choice.
Although in that case, have that be a male or a female who is actually homosexual.
I would prefer a nice gay male captain myself, but women shouldn't be left out of the picture.
So either gender would be good so long as the sexual orientation is homosexual. :D

An Orion Slave Girl releases powerful pheromones, the crew would most likely need to be heterosexual females. It's unknown if homosexual males or females would be resistant to those pheromones.

Do the majority of audience actually identify with the captain? I mean I became a fan of Star Trek when I was little so theoretically the only characters I could've related to were probably Jake, Nog and Wesley. But those three were hardly my reasons for watching Star Trek.

I don't think I could ever relate to a guy like Captain Picard.

Unknown ?
I doubt it.
A homosexual male is not sexually attracted to females.
The brain of a fully homosexual male is simply not wired to make the body it's attached to respond to female pheromones or various other stimulation in the same capacity as heterosexual males would.

Homosexual females on a starship with an orion slave girl as a captain would have them falling for her much like the males on the NX-01 did because they are sexually attracted to the same (female) gender.
Heterosexual females would not because they are sexually not attracted to members of the same sex.
This is why I suggested a crew comprised of homosexual males and heterosexual females.
For that particular situation you get a natural defense system.
The pheromones enhance the sexual desire in a subject so they fall for the person that emits them ... but if the subjects sexual desire is not towards the females (in this case the gender the Orion slave belongs to), then it's a no show.

In my experience it is actually easier to relate to the first officer than the captain so i think an alien captain and a human first officer would be best, you get the exitement and new aspects of having an alien but an easily relatably human there too
