AMT/Round 2 reissue kits

I am curious if anyone here has purchased any of the reissue kits from Round 2? I am particularly curious about the 1/2500 scale kits. If anyone has, I would appreciate some feedback. My main area of interest is have their been any improvements to the detailing of the kits, aside from the addition of the Aztec decals?

I have the older 3 ship sets and the one featuring the original, refit, and E-D had these horrid raised panel lines. I am curious if this is one of the details that they corrected. I see that they are marketing the C, D, and E seperately and the original, refit, and B together. Any input would be appreciated.

FORBIN probably knows better than I, but I think the alternative decaling is the only change.

I haven't bought them, because I stockpiled, like, ten of each old kit when I heard Ertl was discontinuing them years ago.

Hop on over to www.starshipmodeler.com and ask on the forums there. Tons of people have bought them.

Picked up a 1/1000th scale Polar Lights the other day at Michaels on clearance, and it's a snap together deal. Noticed several other models were also snap together... Guess they're afraid the kids would sniff the glue.

Ah, but 20 years ago Polar Lights hadn't gotten their hands on them yet!

Over at HobbyTalk, we complained about the idea of snap-fit Trek models (which we "old modelers" feel are for kiddies), but the snap feature hasn't effected the overall quality of the kits, so what the hell. In fact the 1/1000 refit is probably the best-engineered snap kit (that isn't made by by Bandai) I've ever seen, and goes together into a gorgeous model anyhoo!

Quite so. I think the last one may have said AMT/ERTL or just AMT. Like I said, I haven't bought a model to put together in years.

I'm saving it for a rainy day when I'm not working on Potemkin or our fanzines... Hopefully it won't sit here for more than a few months before I get a chance to put her together. Interesting it has three variations to go with for the dome...

I ordered the 1/350 Enterprise 1701-A...
Anyone have this one ?
I haven't put a model together for at least 10 years did I
pick a bad one to start again ??

You've got your work cut out for you, especially if you plan on lighting it. The kit is designed for lighting but it can still be built respectably without it. Rummage the Trek section of Starship Modeler's message boards. There are plenty of 350 E's over there and just as much advice on what to do and what to look out for.

Thanks Ziz, I'll head over there :techman:

You sure picked a challenge for your comeback kit! That baby is almost three feet long!

I have one partially bult (without lighting - I'm bad at that), and it does build fairly easily. Tom Sasser did a great job designing the kit.

All my paint, glue and stuff has arrived from Amazon all I need
now is the model and the courage to do it
I'm not going with lighting not even going to try that

I have both of the 1/350's as well, bought them when they were first released. I will probably never get to build them, at least where I'm living now because of lack of room. I have been getting back into the 1/2500 scale stuff (except for the marvelous Polar Lights refit).

After doing a bit of digging, I found out the reissues of the 1/2500 ships are the same as the older ones. The decals have been improved and aztec included in some of the kits. The older 3 piece sets were also snap kits, back when they were still in circulation. I have several of them and I'm glad they are being reissued again. The prices seem quite nice, compared to what is being sold on ebay and other online stores, and they do quite well for kitbashes.
