American research shows Moffat to be sexist

The bias is so blatant it's hilarious. The person who did the research was just a Who fan with an axe to grind, nothing more. And using the Bechdel test of all things... The Bechdel test is interesting but at the end of the day it's not a method of study, it's a joke in a comic. It about as rigorous and scientific as a drinking game.

Yeah, I kind of agree with that. I think it's an interesting way to talk about how female characters are used in movies and TV. It's a good way to begin a discussion, but, yeah, not particularly scientific.

So, basically is it the writer's, the director, or the costuming dept. that is sexist? I am unclear in the evaluation Link who they are taking blame to? I mean if it is the network as a whole.. there are a bazillion more examples to site then Doctor Who..Though I suppose if that is the subject they wanted to concentrate on then yea..But Wardrobe IMHO, has to have some culpability in the whole sexist thing, and if the director of wardrobe was indeed a woman, then wouldn't the argument fall apart? without ascertaining if Wardrobe was directed to make costumes a specific way, and the gender of the female/male designer, then the Bechdel test seems a bit skewed..

If my assertions are incorrect, then I apologize, I must be missing something??

I find this one of the best examples of the Bechdel Test in action. It's not about whether individual books fail, and some fail for very good reasons, but about how often the test is failed-- which is especially disappointing when compared to Reverse Bechdel failures.

P.S. I keep misreading this thread title as "American research shows Moffat to be sexiest."

The Producer of a TV show signs off on all aspects of the show, they are the ones who are leading the creative team. They are the ones that set the tone, the style of a TV show.

While TV is a collaborative medium, it's still a hierarchy. You don't get to do whatever you want. The buck does stop with someone very specific on every show.

Why are costumes coming up, anyway? Did you even read the original article, starsuperion? This is about a far more insidious form of sexism.

Good to see that sexism is in no way showing its face in fandom here... Bros before hos, Moffat isn't sexist, you're sexist for looking for sexism.
