America Gladiators

That's correct. I believe that as many as five episodes are filmed in a single day.
that many? I thought they did 3

Seems slightly unfair to those that have to compete against fresh gladiators in the morning :)

They didn't automatically become Gladiators last season too, they kept talking about "a chance to become a new American Gladiator." One can assume that they were willing to move their families down to LA and engage in a hardcore workout regiment, sign contracts, etc. All of that is optional for them after winning, and they have to show that they deserve the spot.

I didn't know that part, I stand corrected. Rocket proved himself, no doubt.

BTW: I like your footer. :)

another suggestion if they want to save time, get rid of the 'coming up after the commercial break/later in the show' teasers that run for 10 seconds... i dont need a 10 second preview for an event that will last 30 seconds.

the eliminator needs a serious overhaul... just about every contestant wastes so much time at the end, it is sad. i'm sure it's tough, but it rarely comes across as dramatic, just pathetic.

"Oh look, he's catching his breath... and now the other guy caught up to him, and he's also catching his breath... now they are both sliding down the ramp... and catching their breath... oh! one of them grabbed the rope and is just hanging on! aww they slipped... but the other guy... hey is his leg off the coveyor belt? i think he's cheating! eh, at least it's over..."

go back to the old school style, and put it first... its tough, but not momentum breaking.

ditch the 'jump into a pool and swim under fire' because really, swimming is pretty slow, and also not dramatic (even though there is fire!).

They do those to try to keep people from changing the channel and be able to get more ad money... It's not going anywhere. What they do need to do is get rid of those inane interviews... Show 1 "contestant profile", lasting no more than 30 seconds per contestant in every show... And then give them ONE interview during the show!

Agreed... Bringing it back to the beginning is a great idea! And frankly retooling it all together... For one, the gladiators should be involved in it some sense... Maybe not direct competition against 1 candidate, but somehow involved. The stars of the show are Crush, Siren, Jet... and the rest of the gladiators. Also, the rope thing where they walk across it just seems stupid. I don't know how hard it is, but it is awful tv. I agree with the swimming under fire thing as well... ditch it! Wow, what a worth candidate, they can swim a couple of meters!

I thought they automatically got the option to become a new gladiator... Are you sure about this?
I remember it being "a chance to. . ." and being excited when they confirmed that Evan (Rocket) was going to be on this season. I kind of wanted to see a qualifying episode to show how they earn the spot. Maybe have them compete one on one against the gladiators in a bunch of events and they have to win a certain amount of them to get in, or they pick a gladiator (or have one assigned) for them to go against in a normal episode-style series of events. Having it just 'happen' is kind of anti-climactic.

I hate the way they film the events -they keeping moving the damn camera so you can't see shit.

By the way, if any of you remember Siren (Shelley Beattie), the deaf gladiator from the original show, she committed suicide a few months ago.

i understand the idea behind those 10 second teasers... however, i'd say that if the show were as a whole, more interesting, you wouldnt need to try to convince the audience to stay tuned.

and like i said earlier, they definately need to ditch the interviews. others have stated that the contestants always reply in the same way, so it doesnt really matter.

one thing that killed me was the promoting of "The Hulk" movie... man was that lame, and it wasted a lot of time...

on one hand, i am not sure the gladiators need to be involved in the eliminator, it adds a super random element into the mix. but on the other hand, it is a show about the gladiators...

i wish it were just the eliminator that was made worse this time around, but a lot of the events got similar treatment...

Assault is really lame now. the first weapon is a slingshot? i dont know why anyone event tries to actually use it... then there is the sand pit/smoke screen... i am happy that they re-tooled it a bit and got rid of the 'search for ammo' bit, but they can toss the sand pit as a whole, and the smoke screen that no one uses and doesnt seem to fool anyone when it is used.

Yeah, the smoke screen is useless, but at least they did get rid of the "find the ammo" part so that people can actually get past that point in Assault. We pretty much just FF past the "Lookat my family! We're awesome! We love each other and we're doing this for them!" Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got it. Rinse and repeat every week. Same old cliches. Give us a few seconds of why we should like 'em or hate 'em, then let's get to the action. Or show Crush kicking ass or just hanging out. Either way...

There had to be some way to involve them that doesn't destroy the "fairness" of the event
but on the other hand, it is a show about the gladiators...
It should only be about Crush :D

True that... Hopefully they can fix this for the next season.[/quote]

^ "All about Crush"? then it'll be "The Crush Show".. Humm, you might have an idea there. And the can also have a show called "All about Titan" for the ladies. :)

Of the few times I've seen Assault on the show, the ONLY time I've seen anyone hit the target, it was with the slingshot. The problem is that no one is even fast enough to make it to all of the stations. And the Gladiators are such great shots that the contestants all get hit too early.

I would actually kind of doubt that many of them are on, or ever were on, steroids in any case. Supplements obviously, a very strict diet and workout regiment leading up to filming definitely, but most of them look fairly 'natural'. Michael O'Hearn aka 'Titan' is actually quite well known for the fact that he is a natural builder (though a freakishly successful one and freakishly hardcore in his training; The guy starts his day at 4am.).

Roids aren't the only way to get big. It is just a quicker way for most people.

I miss Gemini form the old show...not the 1st season "dual personality" (hence the name), but the wise-warrior personality we got later on.

In the new one, Titan just has that "perfect" look...Wolf also has some sort of personality & seems to enjoy the competition...everyone else doesn't seem to stand out.

i'd personally like to see the New AG have a week where it's also "Battle of the Network Stars", with some of the stars being the gladiators, with their character names (i.e. Jorge Garcia as Hurley ... try to get past him in a few of the events)...I can see 4 days being the main eliniation, 2 days of semi-finals, and 1 day of finals. (8 teams include the 5 big networks, plus whatever else they can grab, whether it be HBO, VH!...heck, even PBS!).

i was going to suggest that to NBC, but the writer's strike ended...

And once again we see how incongruous the eliminator is when compared to the rest of the events. The red girl didn't get a single point, and still won the eliminator(not that either of them were particularly impressive in the final event or throughout the show for that matter), because it focuses on speed over all else, and because that stupid fucking rope swing gets tons of extra slack for seemingly no reason.

I've been gone for the week but finally caught the last episode. It was better than the week before, but man was I rooting for the clock during the eliminator. Why does the red girl get all the respect in the world for winning that thing when she didn't even get a single point in any of the events. It just seems to me that the eliminator is designed to make what came before kind of pointless. At least she isn't in the semi-finals. I don't use the phrase much, but if she had beaten the clock, this show would have definately jumped the shark, even for me who looks at this as a guilty entertaining pleasure for the summer season.

At least Monday is the return of a great event. Looking forward to Atlasphere, but not meeting yet another new gladiator. There are too many of those.
