Well, she's got pretty much full point-defense lasers from her 8 CIWS turrets... though the aft side is a bit bare. Torpedos are guided weapons, so... wherever I put them, they'll be cool. Plus, I was going for a "submarine" thing by putting them all on top.

I totally missed the CIWS lasers when I first looked over the design, so that's totally my bad. Although the bow seems like a good spot to mount a laser powerful enough to cut into a ship or something...

My main issue with having all the torp tubes up top is that it increases the distance "snapshots" (sub parlance for torps launched at an enemy without a good firing solution) have to travel to get to the target, giving them more opportunities to shoot them down. Putting some tubes on the bottom also allows for salvos of four torps each on targets in all directions, giving the enemy more to worry about.

The mass driver turrets are the primo brute force "blow holes in ships" weapon. Though the lasers certainly could be used for pinpoint damage at "knife-fight" ranges. Torpedos are mainly last-resort weapons, used only if disabling a ship is not a reasonable option.

I'll look into having some ventral tubes for the torpedoes.

Herkimer, When you think about it though, you should reverse that. Lasers travelling at lightspeed are going to be more effective at long range than projectile weapons. The farther away the target is, the more time the target has to dodge a none-manuvering projectile. Best to use the mass drivers in close and as a wet navy "phalanx" type system. It would be great at killing incoming missiles by throwing out clouds of high speed metal.

This is a WIP based on the idea that the Conestoga would make a more convincing hero ship than the Akira as a basis for the NX-01. It's very WIP-y, so some of the stuff is a bit wonky.

I added labels and stuff for this post.

It almost reminds me of the Andorian ships they had on Enterprise... I think it's got something to do with the nose.

Nice ship, no offence Jitty, but this type of work^ is the reason I went to blender!

I'll admit to having experimented with 3D a few times. I must admit, this project is tempting me to learn, so that I could have a more fluid visualization process.
