So Spock and Nero went to a different timeline and universe just as the Uss Defiant went to the Mirror universe???? Im not buying it. Especially since Spock deduced that events in their lives unfolded differently. Why say this if its a completely different timeline.
Theoretically, since Spock Prime was still around and his memories weren't erased or altered by the trip, HIS 'future' was still intact. If there were only one universe and Nero had altered it so dramatically, odds are Spock Prime would never have failed to save Romulus and been tossed back to begin with. He might never have GONE to Romulus.
And Spock Prime wanting to 'direct' the path of the reality he landed in wasn't surprising at all. He was getting old. He was sentimental. Seeing young Kirk reminded him of his long lost old friend, and as he later stated, he didn't want to deprive himself of the deep friendship he knew he could have with Kirk...or just as easily not have, if not pushed toward it. Very...human.
