Allies Against The Dominion

One thing that has always concerned me about the Dominion War - why didn't Vulcan provide any notable assistance during the war. Was there something going on that they had to sit out the most desperate struggle of the Alpha Quadrant?

There were Vulcans on SF ships just not shown very much (thankfully). I blv there was an entire ship of those 'pointy-eared bastards' that stopped by DS9 for a friendly game of holo-ball.

If you were wanting those cool Vulcan ships from Ent, that would have been nice to see. They were fearsome in combat, too.

I think the Vulcans did the same as any Federation world; they're a part of Starfleet. It wouldn't surprise me if member worlds still have a "home guard" of sorts (though given the Federation's attitude towards defense it would also not surprise me if member worlds lose that right upon joining).

I suppose now that I think about it, the only forces and commanders mentioned outside of the Federation were indeed the ones not a part of them. I don't remember seeing any Vulcan ships in any of the battles so I assumed that they weren't a part of the war, but I guess I was wrong. I would have thought the directors and producers would have had at least one episode with the Romulans fighting alongside the Vulcans, setting aside their ages of rivalry for the common cause.

Thanks for the insight.

Vulcans don't have their own ships, at least any specifically Vulcan designs. As far as I know.

What I wanted to see were the damn Ferengi joining in for the last battle. I wanted Marauders. They promised me Marauders.

This is like asking why didn't North Dakota help the United States in WWII.....

Sigh... Why didn't we see Betazoid, Andorian, Tellarite or even Coridian ships?...

I wanted to see an Earthian Ship firing phase canons

Finn--In my opinion, because we never saw those worlds' "home guard," if they are allowed to have one. But I do wonder if it's possible that, if you actually got in orbit of some of those worlds, that such a thing might be seen.

They did. In episodes like "Tears Of The Prophets" and "What You Leave Behind".

That just showed Romulans in the war effort. There was never a specific scene of a Vulcan and a Romulan in a room together discussin' their joint efforts against the Dominion.

But a Vulcan admiral was shown in the room when Sisko was arguin' to get support to retake the station. And a Vulcan captain & his crew was shown docked at DS9 for repair work durin' the war in 'Take Me Out to the Holosuite'. Plus other Vulcans here & there.

But, yeah, as part of the Federation, they were involved in the war effort just like every other member of the Federation.

:vulcan:

I wonder what the Gorn were up to?
Would have been great to see the Tholians as well.

Are you new to Trek? It sounds like you watched ENT first, and just got into the 24th century.

In the Federation, Starfleet is the single combined defense force for all member worlds. Once a member joins the Federation, its military forces are absorbed into Starfleet.

That's why there are so many Vulcans serving in Starfleet (Tuvok, Spock, Taurik, Vorik, etc.). Some Starfleet vessels are almost entirely manned by Vulcans (USS Intrepid, USS Hera, USS T'Kumbra).

Member worlds are allowed a planetary defense force like Earth's Mars Defense Perimeter (which is only three small attack ships), Vulcan Defense Vessels, Betazed Planetary Defenses, etc. But theses defenses are limited and can't really fend off a serious attack without Starfleet assistance. The ground forces on Federation worlds, whether its a small colony like Ajilon Prime or Earth itself are all Starfleet security officers.

Actually, some local Earth forces, I presume ground, were supposed to be featured in Homefront/Paradise Lost but the writers didn't want to complicate things.

The Tholians signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion.

I know but it would have still been good to see them. Theyd make a more interesting allie to the Dominion than the Breen.

I always assumed every Federation planet had its own defence force but it be made up of people from all the federation worlds like starfleet is.
