Alliance of American Football (AAF) 2019 Season

Chaos Descending

Vice Admiral
Admiral
The first (and maybe last!) season of the Alliance of American Football begins in just a few days.

Anyone interested?

I am a "sports homer" so I am already a fan of the Arizona Hotshots.

There'll only be one broadcast game for this league, after that you'll need CBS Sports Access, B/R streaming and NFL Network to watch the games. I'll be watching this Saturday to see San Antonio play since CBS is broadcasting it. If I like what I see, I'll consider getting the other stuff. But since I don't have cable, I simply won't have access to all of the games.

I'm looking forward to this. Will be interesting to see how this all pans out, especially now that they're associated with the NFL. There's a chance both the AAF and XFL tank, but the XFL would likely tank (again) for being the anti-NFL.

The AAF starts the week after the Super Bowl and ends on the final day of the draft. That's pretty self-aware.

The NFL network is showing their games, which is the type of NFL relationship the XFL won't have. If I were a betting man, I'd say neither of these two new leagues will survive, but if one of them does, it'll be the AAF because of their relationship with the NFL.

CBS isn't getting any more money from me.

If you get CBSAA from their website, you'll have access to CBS Sports Network. If you get CBSAA from an Amazon subscription, you won't get the games.

All of the games are supposed to be streaming from the app for free.

I've got 5 GA tickets to the Birmingham Iron games. I'll see if I like it or not after the first game.

It looked like an expansion league, but that's fine. Glad to see San Antonio get the win!

So until about five hours ago, I didn't even know this thing existed. I've seen headlines and/or people talking about it on /r all week and assumed the AAF was American Arena Football or sommat.

The AAF is a sinking ship. The Hurricaines owner had to provide a $250 million bailout to keep the league from folding after week 2, but he can retract that investment anytime and probably will when he realizes just how many millions of dollars of his money they are losing each week...

Putting teams in primarily mid-sized media markets doesn't generate enough revenue to support a professional football league. This league was designed for failure from the very beginning.

It wouldn't be surprising that neither of the leagues survive. I'll continue to tune in just for the novelty of it, but I don't expect it to last.

And San Antonio is now 1-2. :(
