Alley on not doing Trek III

Alley, just like many others today, has a tough enough time dealing with their weight gains and losses, to which comments like those are uncalled for.

The 11th Starfleet Commandment thus sayeth : Thou shalt not taketh everything so seriously, lest ye be committed to Elba II.

Pardon the pun, Alley has been the butt of jokes from every comedian and late night talk show host for years.

That doesn't mean it's appropriate. There's not taking it so seriously, and there's going too far. The kind of jokes about Alley's weight over the years go too far most of the time, and because of that, we here shouldn't engage in that kind of humor. We owe it to ourselves as fans to be better than that, to be honest.

So that's a reason to sink to that level?

ETA: FormerLurker got there first - my point stands, though.

Indeed. Same thing happened with the Alien series. Talk about spoilers.

TMP, III, II, IV, VI, V. Yeah, I ended on V.
Alien, Alien 3, Aliens, Alien Resurrection.
Similar thing happened to me, can't remember the exact order but I know I'd seen TSFS and TVH a bunch of times as the terrestrial TV channels in the UK showed them a LOT back in the late 80s/early 90s. Then I saw VI at the cinema, sometime after that a kid at school lent me his VHS of TMP which was the first time I saw it - can't remember if that was before or after I saw Generations, and then I didn't see TWOK until about 96 I think when the Sci-Fi Channel were doing some sort of 30th anniversary celebration. I remember recording it off the TV and watching it dozens of times. It was an absolutely butchered TV edit with really abrupt cuts and ad breaks every few minutes, but I loved it. Can't remember when I saw TFF for the first time.

I remember as being really confused why Kirstie Alley was Saavik in TWOK (bearing in mind I saw it years after TSFS) at the time, and that the portrayals were so different. These days I appreciate both Saaviks. I think I prefer Kirstie overall, but Robin was arguably the better Vulcan.

Oh and I saw Aliens before Alien.

Both Alley and Curtis were fine in the role of Saavik, and Cattrall's Valeris was a job really well done. I went years wondering why Samantha on Sex and the City looked familiar until the wife told me who the actress was.

Back in 1982, my 16-year old self had quite a crush on Lt. Saavik in TWOK. I wish that Kirstie Alley could have played her in the later films, but I guess that's Hollywood.
