Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

One of these days I am going to need to figure out what Fortnite is. People sometimes talk about it.

What's that? Young people play this and find it fun and are playing STAR WARS missions that I can enjoy too?

Fortnite is a video game and also a gaming platform. Initially, it was just a battle royale game, but now it has integrated the likenesses of famous people, as well as characters from studios and streaming platforms’ own productions, making them playable in the game. Besides the battle royale mode, there are also games called Fortnite: Save the World and Fortnite Creative.

Additionally, The Walt Disney Company owns a 10% stake in Fortnite and has partnered with Epic Games to build a virtual park within the platform. Moreover, many characters, including those from The Simpsons, have been added to the game. Major Disney events such as D23 Expo have also been livestreamed on the platform.

Also:
Emperor Palpatine's return was notoriously announced to the galaxy via a mysterious broadcast during a Fortnite in-game event on December 20, 2019, shortly before the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This broadcast, featuring his message of revenge, was later referenced in the film's opening crawl, stating "The dead speak!".

This is a shot of Sigourney Weaver's Colonel Ward I'd never seen until today. Ellen Ripley looks damn good in a New Republic X-Wing cockpit.

We are one year away from the original theatrical cut of Star Wars coming to theaters.

On February 19, 2027, Disney and Lucasfilm are putting the original Star Wars, later retitled A New Hope, back into theaters (via Star Wars). It's far from the first re-release of a classic Star Wars film, as The Phantom Menace was re-released in 2024, and Revenge of the Sith in 2025. Even A New Hope was re-released in 1997 for the film's 20th anniversary. That particular release also marked the release of the special edition of A New Hope, which had new VFX, added previously removed scenes, and more.

This re-release, however, is special, as it's the 50th anniversary of Star Wars' release back in 1977. To commemorate the occasion, Disney and Lucasfilm are also releasing the original, unedited theatrical version of Star Wars for the first time in decades. That's a big development in and of itself, but it's also remarkable because George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, doesn't want anyone to watch the theatrical version of A New Hope.

More at link.
I was way too young to see this when it first released so I'll probably check it out. Plus, it's a nice F.U to Lucas who fought tooth and nail for decades to keep this locked away.

Now can we please get the original films on 4K ?
