Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Studios Announce Leadership Transition
As Kathleen Kennedy steps down from Lucasfilm leadership to return to producing, Dave Filoni will lead the studio as President and Chief Creative Officer alongside Lynwen Brennan as Co-President.

"And as you have read, Steve Soderbergh and Adam Driver turned in a script written by Scott Burns. It was just great. Anything’s a possibility if somebody’s willing to take a risk."

"Mangold’s is really on the back burner as is Soderbergh’s."

I thought the Driver thing was 100% dead, but... now it's on par with Mangold?

is this a step up for her? that she focus on producing films instead?

I don't know if I would call it that thought it might be a matter of perspective. I could see her enjoying the chance to get away from the drama that comes from running Star Wars to producing movies that are more personal to her. Plus she is super rich. So it's not like she will be needing to do stuff just for money at this point.

He's seen striking down Cin Drallig in the Jedi Temple security recordings.
Yes. That's what we waited 20 years for: One guy. On security footage.

Since the OT Kathleen Kennedy gave us a movie with Vader as a nearly unstoppable power. Lucas gave us "the high ground".

Vader is actually kind of a whiny troll, isn't he? He can take out little kids and the Jedi who were left behind and not on the front lines. He takes out Kenobi only when Kenobi clearly lets him. Maybe that was George's original vision and Kennedy (and Filoni) screwed it up with Rogue One and Rebels?

You waited 28 years to see Vader "help" the Empire "hunt down and destroy" the Jedi.

Then you got ROTS, where he's clearly not helping at all! Thanks for nothing, slave boy. Little help?

(Never mind the issue that hunting down a group is a little easier when you happen to know where they're all hanging out. Nailed it!)

And you just know he stopped at the one guy. Drallig's no Lay's potato chip after all.

It's all about knowing what Obi-Wan was really saying without saying it: that Vader did it all himself. Like when he claimed -- as people insisted for many years -- that Anakin was "noble". The fact that it never happened only makes it that much more true.

Anywho, at the risk of discussing some actual news, they officially announced a revamp to Galaxy's Edge, incorporating more original trilogy and New Republic-era elements. More scenarios are being added to Smuggler's Run, and Luke, Leia, Han, and Darth Vader are joining in as roaming characters.
Total lack of surprise here. When it was built, I noted that it could easily be re-themed if needed.

But the article only mentions Disneyland, are they not doing this with the one in Walt Disney World in Florida?

is this a step up for her? that she focus on producing films instead?

It's a step back to what she is good at. She's unfortunately tarnished her legacy as one of the greatest movie producers of all time. She's really good at executing other people's vision, but seems to be bad at the creative side of things. It'll be years before we get any good tell-alls about what actually happened behind closed doors at Lucasfilm.

Kennedy: "And then I do believe [Rian Johnson] got spooked by the online negativity. I think Rian made one of the best Star Wars movies. He’s a brilliant filmmaker and he got spooked. This is the rough part. When people come into this space, I have every filmmaker and actors say to me, 'What’s going to happen?' They’re a little scared."

Even if Johnson was thusly deterred, this seems like a classless statement on Kennedy's part. He's doing well with his Knives Out movies, and has always maintained he'd love to come back to Star Wars. He's also consistently said that his experience with fans has been overwhelmingly positive, and he's never given the respectful critics (let alone the haters) a single thought. So why is she seemingly throwing him under the bus?

Then there's this:

DEADLINE: What have been the highs and lows or running a company built on such beloved IP?
KENNEDY: The lows are that you’ve got a very, very small percentage of the fan base that has enormous expectations and basically they want to continue to see pretty much the same thing. And if you’re not going to do that, then you know going in that you’re going to disappoint them. I’m not sure there’s anything you can do about that, because you can’t please everybody.
So, instead of honoring Carrie Fisher by saying that the "lows" of her tenure was having to work around her sad and unexpected loss, she takes care to note one more time, in the middle of a fawning interview, that the low point of her job was the fans that were mean to her, even though there's only a "very, very small" number of them anyway.

Gee, one can't imagine why some fans don't seem to like her very much. It must be her lack of a Y chromosome. Couldn't be anything else, to any degree.
