Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Galactic Racer looks fun!

Aside:
I’d love to see a similar game set on locations such as Corellia, with Han and Qi’ra racing in the stolen blue landspeeder against Patrol Troopers on their respective speeders, and White Worms gang thugs.

Another location (my own head-cannon) would be a street race with landspeeders around Cloud City, both at the hanger level and the city canopy level - buffeted by winds, up-draughts, and being chased by Cloud Cars, etc.

Now all this has got my nostalgic for the heady days of playing Super Star Wars, and careening across Tatooine doing who knows what, at what felt like breakneck speeds! lol!

Nah, I'm not that old. And it's certainly true that there's rarely much fanfare for 10th movie anniversaries. So, did I take a bit of a cheap shot at TFA? Sure, I'll cop to that. A cheap shot for a cheap (script-wise) rehash of a flick. :p

That said, TFA did introduce Rey, and Rey is still presumed to star in a big new movie at some point, so I wouldn't have been surprised if Disney/Lucasfilm had tried to gin up some 10th anniversary fanfare, even something as modest as a brief theatrical re-release, maybe paired with an animated (or, heck, even live-action) short of a new Rey adventure. Or, if they're keeping the theatrical decks clear for Avatar, at least put such a short on D+.

All in all, Lucasfilm's utter lack of celebration of one of the highest-grossing movies of all time kinda smells like they know they made a turkey, and are hoping that Mando & Grogu and Starfighter will dig them out of their hole... from a certain point of view, of course. ;)
I wouldn't read too much into, I don't really seem to start celebrating these kind of anniversaries until they hit 20 or 25.
I partly agree. It's a random date regarding a corporate product; who cares? On the other hand, the simple fact is that many Westerners have much less social contact and fewer friends than is healthy, and pop culture is one of the few things that can bring us together. In many cases, people may feel more comfortable inviting casual friends to a known favorite they all love than a newer movie they may not enjoy, so anniversary screenings can be positive social events, and coinciding screenings with anniversaries, rather than playing older movies at random, can help gin up buzz, with retrospective media stories and such.
I don't do anniversary screenings of movies like this. I see movies in theaters once, and that's enough, so if I'm going to spend my money on a seeing a movie in theaters, it's going to be for something I've never seen before.
The only times I've ever considered it is some of my local theaters $5 classics on Tuesday nights, and that's only because they're so cheap. And it would only before for something I absolutely love.

They appear to be doing a whole series of 10 anniversary articles for The Force Awakens on StarWars.com, so they're at least not totally ignoring it.

Racing on Cloud City seems like an especially bad idea.

( Spoken as someone who could not pull off the Ord Ibanna level on N64 Racer. )

Lol - it defo doesn’t seem like a good idea, however, it kinda ups the stakes / risks for me - and although it shouldn’t work on paper, I kinda want it to happen…

I just realized something. I know it was easy to forget about, but Resistance had racing as a pretty big part of the series. I wonder if they'll incorporate anything from that into Galactic Racer?
Now THAT'S a fan.

It will probably depend on where in the timeline it's set, but if it's late enough I could maybe see one of the characters popping up.
