Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

I was deeply disappointed and saddened by how John and Kelly Marie Tran were treated. I had honestly thought fandom was better than that. I was also horrified to learn how they were treated by TPTB - the diminishment of their parts and so on. There was so much more that could've been done with those characters.

LOL! No, just maybe a bit naïve. I'd never encountered that sort of crap in my personal experience in fandom.
Fans bullied the actor playing Jar Jar Binks with letters etc. during the prequel movies, causing him to attempt suicide. In the first movie, they lynched the kid playing Anakin by bullying him in the middle of the street with letters. Hayden Christensen's performance in the later movies was so unpopular that he started not being able to find roles after a while. During the trilogy and after it ended, until George Lucas sold the series to Disney, every time he appeared in front of the fans, the fans would boo him and say "You ruined Star Wars".

What's weird with Boyega is I have noticed more fans on his side than Disney was ever on his side. One of the biggest complaints I always hear is about how misused his character was. The potential of a Storm Trooper turned good. Also people really loved him when he tore into Disney in the past. In fact I think most of the actors except maybe Tran seems to have taken less heat for the sequel failures than what you would expect. Kennedy,Johnson and Abrams have taken the brunt of hate for those movies.

Of course their will always be those mental instability types that can't tell the difference between a fictional character and real person but that seems to be common with most popular movies and tv show characters/actors. I do think he might be talking though about a potential romance issue with his character and Rey so he might have a point in that regard. I do feel like they set up a possible romance but even in that case then it seems like Johnson would deserve most of the blame. He is the one who wrote him as turning into a coward for no reason and trying to run away in the second movie. Meanwhile building some love embers between Rey and Kylo Ren. Showing up all without a shirt and being all sexy in front of her and all.

Hmmm...

I see the eyes of one who wants to run.

What we see in Finn is what we see in TFA. He fears the First Order, and what might happen. The only reason why he fights is that he needs a personal connection, not an ideological or political one. Say what you want about Johnson, but he did not invent much, except stuff that violated fans expectations.

I may have soften on the Sequel trilogy over the years, but I still value them more highly than the PT. The PT does not feel additive to me. It diminishes how Anakin and Obi-Wan and Yoda and their esteemed abilities that the OT hints at, and the PT never capitalized on. They are deeply arrogant people, and there is a touch of Greek tragedy to it that is closer to Achilles and the huge ass that he was.

The ST makes me sympathize with the OT characters more. Despite their victories, each one is burdened with terrible burdens and expected to make their decisions perfectly. Do I agree with Abrams or Johnson? No, I think the ST could have been done better.

Do I think it ruined characters? No. I can't say the same about the PT.

I never witnessed any sexism or racism amongst my circle of geeks. Just general disappointment in the writing or criticism of underdeveloped characters. More so with the last Jedi, there was quite a positive buzz with force awakens.
Finn had the potential to be a great character, had a very talented actor. I liked his performance in TFW. It was with TLJ and TROS when he became the side character and the writers clearly didn't have a clue.

There will always be some sexism and racism that is exposed in situations like this. Even before the internet you still had people send in hate mail. But I also think sometimes a bad movie is just a bad movie and a bad character is just a bad character and sometimes a bad script is just that. I do think people sometimes these days have problems telling the difference between the two because of cynicism. People want to see the worst in people and situations because they are pissed at what is happening to society and the world today. They have lost faith in humanity and the idea that most people are good and sometimes a person is just flawed and not evil.

If a movie causes a loss of faith in humanity then that faith was probably not very strong to begin with and shows a rather poor familiarity with history.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

The entitlement is even worse with the next generation, the manners / respect wasn't taught well by their parents.

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld announced!
More Asajj and more Bane is always welcome! I'm honestly a little shocked since so far they've been alternating each year between Tales & Visions, and this is a Visions year.

Seems like they're switching up the format too; rather than two groups of separate but thematically connected episodes, set across a span of years, these seem to be two serialised stories of three episode each.
Honestly, I like it! One of the drawbacks of the previous seasons is that some episodes felt like the weak link in the chain.

I knew an Asajj story would happen, I just didn't think it would be a tales series

That man at the start talking to Ventress, he sounds like he might be voiced by Tony Amendola

The glowy flames around Ventress top right. I wonder if we will see her resurrection

Fantastic! I'm always down for more Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane! I cannot wait. :D
I'm starting to really appreciate that they don't announce these things until they're already done and about to come out!

I'm going to assume that the fact that they didn't say that this will be the last one means it's not unreasonable to expect another one next year (they're usually pretty up-front about final seasons being final in animation.)
One also assumes the reason there was a two year turnaround between TotJ and TotE, and now TotU is the second one in as many years means that the first season was a test, and that landed then at least a further three season order once it proved it had legs.

Yes that's a lot of assumptions, but I really like this format. It has almost limitless potential! I can certainly see all kinds of possibilities. Like say; a 'Tales of the Rebellion' giving us a look at Sabine, both as an Imperial cadet and filling in the hole between 'Rebels' and 'Ahsoka', matched with three Kallus episodes, giving more of an insight into his arc from genocidal loyalist to rebel defector.
Maybe a 'Tales of Mandalore' to finally get into that year Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan spent guarding Satine, matched with whatever was going on with Bo at the time and how she ended up with Deathwatch.
'Tales of the Sith' could get into the story Filloni roughed out for the Sith Lord of Malachor and what went down before her super-weapon was shut down, and perhaps an arc for Maul covering his childhood as Palpatine's apprentice (maybe even Talzin's involvement with Sidious?) ending with whatever led him to Malachor.

I'd been expecting another Tales series, but The Underworld hadn't occurred to me as a possible topic. As I'm fan of both Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress, I'm happy they're the focus, and I'm especially curious to get to learn Bane's backstory. I wonder if Asajj picking up her own apprentice is setting up a bigger appearance in whatever out next full length animated series will be? That seems like a pretty big story to only cover in a handful of shorts.
