Nic Sant was part of the Legends continuity. Until such time as the character from Return of the Jedi gets a canonical name in the new continuity, I will consider him to be Rex.
Filoni revealed in an interview with IGN he ultimately chose to not officially canonize the theory, stating that he did not want to take a character that had existed prior to him joining Star Wars, and didn't want to lay it down in stone one way or the other, adding that Rex could have been present at Endor and not be Sant. Because of this deliberate ambiguity, he stated some fans could choose to believe that Sant and Rex are the same individual while others choose to not do so.
I'm curious what the canonical source of the name "Nik Sant" is as Wookiepedia does not say. Has the character ever been referred to as such since the Disney buyout? The article says that there's no canonical source has officially or definitively stated that Sant and Rex are the same character. The flip side of that is no canonical source has officially said that they're not the same character either.Nik Sant has a canon page on Wookieepedia

Nik Sant
Nik Sant was a male human who served in the military of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. By the time of the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Sant was one of the most veteran scouts in the Rebel Alliance. Nik Sant served the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the...starwars.fandom.com
As I suspected, the article's Talk Page has the answer. At least it's not as exhaustive (or exhausting) as Wikipedia's Talk Page discussions of "Does 'Star Trek Into Darkness' have a colon and/or capital "i" in it?" or "How do you spell the name of the demon clown from the film 'Beetlejuice'?".I'm curious what the canonical source of the name "Nik Sant" is as Wookiepedia does not say. Nope. This was a point of pride for Lucas as he did the CGI. It blew my mind because I figured one suit would be made for reference then cloned not edit on the suit in post.I was just reading through the trivia galleries for the Andor Season 1 episodes and it said that they had to make the Clone armor for the first time for Andor's Clone Wars era flashback because all of the Clone armor before that had always been CGI. That surprised me, I would have assumed there would have been at least a few suits of physical armor where we saw just a one or a few troopers, or scenes where we saw Temuera Morrison without a helmet.
I think the fact that neither Rex nor Nic got a short story in the 'From A Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi' anthology indicates that LF have decided to keep that an open question for the foreseeable future, and I'm fine with that (also; it's totally Rex!Nic Sant was part of the Legends continuity. As crazy as it sounds, there was method to the madness. For one thing it guaranteed that all of the clones matched; given the state of rendering technology at the time, had they gone with suits for the "hero" clones and CG for the background clones, the difference between the two may have been distracting.Nope. I remember being shocked (and thinking about AotC/RotS) when I saw a VFX breakdown for TFA that included a shot where several foreground stormtroopers were CG, in the same shot as ones who'd been actors on-set.These days rendering has gotten to the point where you can comfortably put full CG next to real costumes in frame and not have to worry.
Filoni said he decided he didn't want to retcon an existing character to be someone else.
A new poster just dropped!

It really is amazing how much subtle CGI there is in shows and movies that you don't even notice. I can't remember what it was, but a while back I was watching a behind the scenes video for a show to see that almost every time the characters were outside there was some kind of CGI in the background that I had thought was real.I remember being shocked (and thinking about AotC/RotS) when I saw a VFX breakdown for TFA that included a shot where several foreground stormtroopers were CG, in the same shot as ones who'd been actors on-set.
The shot at 00:40 if it doesn't jump straight to it.
I didn't even realize until this post that she's in both of this year's big sci-fi Disney+ series.Trailers for Andor and Doctor Who on the same day. Disney plus must be trying to drive up subscriptions.
It certainly makes it a big day for Varada Sethu.
