Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

A new poster just dropped!

Is it weird the the first detail that jumped out at me was the chonky (scaled down?) Lambda style shuttle from 'Rebels'? (No, not the Sentinel-Class, this one!) That and the Range Trooper!
Also; Nick Blood is back? I'm honestly shocked! I'd have assumed he was a one and done. Indeed, wasn't there a line in passing somewhere that the entire Garrison on Aldhani had been arrested or something? Unless I'm mis-remembering that, he could end up being a Rebel in this one. Nothing radicalises someone faster than being imprisoned just to cover up a superior's mistake. On the other hand as the only one that raised the alarm, he may have actually gotten a promotion.

I already knew the Range Troopers were returning because Hasbro is releasing a Black Series Range Trooper from Andor as a Target exclusive, but it's still awesome to see that trooper design return to the franchise after seven years' absence!

Wookieepedia seems to think he died. He definitely got shot and went down.

what the hell, that was Nick Blood? I didn't even recognize him

It's amazing what a bit of facial hair can do

This shuttle appears to be based off the shuttle used in in Rebels 4x04. Though I assumed that was just a regular Lambda in the Rebel's art style.

Here's a fun and interesting video of Tested assembling some kit replicas of the RotJ scout walker stop-motion puppet.

They also did a video for the ESB version last week, but the reason I'd like to talk about this one is because I think it's the first time I've ever seen both puppets side-by-side. One of the many reasons I find that interesting is because both of these were built to the same scale, both use a lot of the same kit-bash parts, both execute the same design, and yet the proportions are so wildly different!

How these aren't considered separate designs in the canon I do not know. I mean just look at the size of the head; no way the ESB model is wide enough for the pilots to sit in tandem like they do for the RotJ one. It'd have to be either a single driver, or a linear seating arrangement like the AT-DP in 'Rebels'.
Which would actually make a lot of sense since that thing was based directly on Joe Johnston's early sketches of this model, and shares a lot of the same proportions.
I could totally see this being an interstitial model between the larger but lightly armed AT-DP, and the more compact but armed to the teeth AT-ST. An AT-SP maybe? The 'transport' part of AT-ST seems justified with the competitively larger cabin capacity (I guess you could fit in a few jump troopers in back of the cabin?)
Given how there's like three separate models of almost identical X-Wings based on which production asset was used, and two classes of ISD resulting from one fairly minor change* I'm a little shocked this isn't already a thing!

* That's actually noticeable on-screen; I know the 8.5' ISD built for Empire had different guns and way more detailing on top than the 4' from ANH before they retro-fitted it for Empire!

Noticed a few details of that chonk shuttle on the poster that bare a closer look, so here's a comparison to the Rebels version and the original miniature from roughly the same angles.
rqYKaP3.jpg

Three major details jump out at me: -
  1. The cockpit: Notice how the Rebels version seems to hew as close as possible the the original, while the Andor version seems to have a unique shape and significantly different proportions. Note the side and position of the canopy; the Andor one's is proportionally much bigger and almost goes right down to the tip of the nose, while both the Rebels and RotJ versions ride much higher. The overall shape itself also seem to be taller, and the neck connection is more structurally robust.
  2. The wing mounts: For the 'Rebels' version, the wings are mounted high so they're vertically aligned relative to the cockpit in a similar fashion as the RotJ version, with the oversized belly jutting out underneath. The Andor version has them riding much lower and flush with the belly.
  3. Markings: Surprisingly unusual for Imperial shuttles (or indeed, most Imperial ships) is the presence of markings in the form of a black stripe and Imperial Cog on both the underside of the wings, and along the trailing edge of the dorsal foil. The only other example the leaps to mind is of course the Emperor's shuttle in RotJ which unlike Tydirium or Vader's shuttle, had a wide dark grey (and easy to miss) stripe along the nose.
Also noticed a number of smaller details such as the wing braces being closer to the foil's centreline than the edge, enlarged fuselage cowlings, distinct panelling, the wings locking in a more splayed angle, and potentially, an extended rear section (though it's hard to be sure from this angle.)
I'm still reasonably confident that this is meant to be the same type of shuttle seen in 'Rebels', albeit re-interpreted to work better in live action (see also: The Ghost, Ace Squadron, the Gauntlet etc.), even if the Rebels version was likely intended to be a straight-up Lamda, just assembled from chopped up parts of the Sentinel asset they already had, because: budget. Seems appropriate too since that ship's one and only appearance was on a freighter secretly transporting a giant kyber for Project Stardust. For obvious reasons, there's a fairly even chance that this one is also a assigned to that Project.
