Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Jim Cummings is 71, so I don't know if he'd want to go through the makeup, but at the very least I would want him to provide the voice. Utilize the original voice actor just like they did with Cad Bain and Zeb.

That was what I was thinking too.
IGN had an interesting idea for what they could deal with in Season 2, they use Maul as the villain, and also use that as an opportunity to explore his relationship with Satine some more. I would definitely be up for that, I've been curious to learn more about what exactly happened between Obi-Wan and Satine when they were first together.

Maul doesn't really work in that timeframe since 'Rebels' seems to have established that the two haven't encountered each other in a while (probably not since Mandalore.) Indeed, to say Maul was surprised to learn that he's even alive is an understatement; he stumbled off is a delirious maniacal rage.

Now they could of course edge their way around that by having Kenobi be part of how Maul got stranded on Malachor, ending with Maul utterly convinced of Obi-Wan's demise. That would also open the possibility of having Emilia Clarke in a co-starring role, which would be very welcome . . . but at the same time this runs the risk of repeating the pattern of the first season.

Besides, that's all just plot not story. Just as the story of the first season focused on Obi-Wan's arc from the guilt ridden, traumatised war veteran, to the much more centred person that has found forgiveness in himself and a genuine sense of hope for the future, no longer just blindly going through the motions of his assigned duty; the second season would need to continue that arc to his becoming the wise old sage we saw in ANH.

I feel like in this part of his arc; he's already put Maul and Satine behind him and moved on. Indeed we see exactly that in Rebels; he's progressed so far beyond Maul, it's an almost comical disparity.

So long as he's willing and able to do the voice, I don't see why they wouldn't use him, and just handle it they say way they've done with Cade Bane, Maul, Vader, etc. (I don't count Zeb since that's more akin to Jar-Jar; the digital character is more akin to a make-up appliance role that an ADR gig.)

Though in Cummings' case, I suspect the deciding factor would be how substantial a role it would be. Bane, Vader and Maul have the advantage of being of the terse/stoic persuasion so they don't have to worry too much about matching voice to performance without it feeling like an awkward dub. Hondo is neither of those; indeed he almost never shuts up. A small cameo you could get away with it, but if he's a major supporting character then it's going to get very tricky to do convincingly and consistently. They'd need one hell of a mime artist, and probably Cummings on set doing the lines live (which is how I think they did Maul for 'Solo'.) In the end it might be easier to just recast, especially if Cummings plans on retiring anytime soon.

If they can do a season that actually focuses on Obi-Wan, then I'm all for it. No bratty, worthless kid characters or wooden blocks pretending to be Inquisitors to take screen time away from the title character.

For anyone wondering, this is what Quinlan Vos looked like in The Phantom Menace. In 1999 he was just a humanoid denizen of or visitor to Mos Espa on Tatooine. Now he was Quinlan on an undercover mission at the exact same time Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan had to stop for repairs and to the best of my memory Qui-Gon either didn't know Quinlan was there in the marketplace or only quietly acknowledged him so that Vos could keep his cover.

During a recent panel at Dragon Con (via Screen Rant), Giancarlo Esposito stated Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a “new vision” for the Star Wars franchise likely involving fewer TV shows.

I don't mind movies if the story(s) can be told well within such a time frame, but personally I prefer the (mini) series format.

In the end it all kinda depends on the story and character writing. Sadly often mini series are stretched thin from what volume wise could maybe have been a longer movie, that then have pacing issues and feel stretched.
However a good series like (Andor and Shogun for example) can make the overall product be so much better with a bit more time and space for characters, arcs and stories in that art form.

What Espocito had described sounds like the MCU/DCEU formulas for their films.

It was all about Obi-Wan. Both Leia and Reva had served as catalysts to his character arc. Do you feel the same about Mon Mothma's presence in "Andor"? She had such a large presence in the series' first season. Yet, she had no real connection to Cassian's character arc. Well, none really. I hope that Gilroy will rectify this in Season Two.

New comic series announced

'Jedi Knights' in the logo uses the same type face as the 'Jedi Knight' in the logo for Dark Forces 2 lmao

The curve on the J and the very pointy N really give it away.

Sounds like it could be cool, I've been wanting to see more of that era.
